First listen and then answer the question.

Children who play truant from school are unimaginative.

From there, he hitchhiked to Paris in a lorry.

The driver gave him a few biscuits and a cup of coffee and left him just outside the city.

The next car the boy stopped did not take him into the centre of Paris as he hoped it would, but to Perpignan on the French-Spanish border.

There he was picked up by a policeman and sent back to England by the local authorities.

语法

grammar 

动名词复合结构

通常情况下,动名词的逻辑主语为谓语动词的主语。

I enjoy reading.如果动名词动作的发出者不是谓语动的主语时,则需要有自己的逻辑主语结构:my/his/one’s/…+doingWould you mind my opening the window?


逻辑主语是有生命的名词作主语时,必须用名词或代词所有格;作宾语时,也可用名词普通或人称代词宾格。  

这位学生通晓英语对他学法语很有帮助。The student’s knowing English well helps him in learning French.你介意我抽烟吗?Do you mind my/me smoking?

他们坚持要玛丽跟他们一起去那儿。They insist on Mary’s/Mary going with them there.


逻辑主语是无生命名词是,通常只用名词普通格。如:

Is there any hope of our team winning the match

方式状语从句

常用连接词:as(依照), just as(正如), as if, as though(似乎,好像), (in) the same way (that)(和…一样的方式)

我正是按照你说的办的。 I did it just as you told me.Leave it as it is. 维持原状。Always do to others as you would be done by. 己所不欲,勿施于人。We must manage to make it work in the way that we want it to.我们一定要设法让它按照我们所想的那样去做。
