走进牛津大学丨第33期 牛津与剑桥的暗中较量

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is a rowing race in Britain between the two oldest universities in the world the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

牛津剑桥赛艇对抗赛是在英国举办的赛艇比赛，参赛者是世界上历史最悠久的两所学校——牛津大学和剑桥大学。

The Boat Race is held between the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club on the Thames in London.

该赛事由牛津大学赛艇俱乐部和剑桥大学赛艇俱乐部在伦敦的泰晤士河上举行。

Traditionally, members of both teams are in blue dress, yet Oxford in dark blue and Cambridge in light blue,

依照传统，比赛双方均着蓝衣，但牛津队颜色较深，剑桥队颜色较浅，

so they are respectively known as "Dark Blue" and "Light Blue".

因此两队分别被称为“深蓝”和“浅蓝”。

The first race was in 1829 and it has been held annually since 1856，except during the two world wars.

首次比赛是在1829年，自1856年以来每年举办一次，两次世界大战期间除外。

It takes place generally on the last Saturday of March or the first Saturday of April.

它一般是在三月的最后一个星期六或四月的第一个星期六举行。

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is also known as the University Boat Race.

牛津剑桥赛艇对抗赛，又被称作大学赛艇对抗赛。

The Boat Race was started in 1829 by a student at St. John' College of Cambridge, and his schoolfriend who was at Oxford.

1829年，剑桥大学圣约翰学院的一名学生和他牛津大学的校友首次发起牛津剑桥赛艇对抗赛。

Cambridge challenged Oxford to a race at Henley-on-Thames.

剑桥大学向牛津大学发起挑战，要在泰晤士河畔的亨利进行一场赛艇对抗赛。

The second race occurred in 1836，with the venue moved to London.

第二次赛事于1836年举行，比赛地点转移到了伦敦。

During the following couple of years, there was disagreement over where the race should be held, with Oxford preferring Henley and Cambridge preferring London.

在接下来的几年，双方就比赛的举办地问题产生了分歧：牛津偏爱亨利，而剑桥更喜欢伦敦。

It was not until the formation of the Oxford University Boat Club that the race between the two universities resumed.
