活动预告 | 8.19 《In Between Spaces菲律宾当代艺术展》展览暨开幕式
这是一个社会边界似乎被社交媒体模糊的时代，却也是一个国家之间的距离依然存在的时代。但各类教育项目及倡议举措的出现填补了间隙，为国家及人民间的交流沟通搭建桥梁。
8月19日，哥伦比亚大学全球中心 | 北京将举办《In Between Spaces — 菲律宾当代艺术展》开幕式。
In Between Spaces融合教育平台与视觉艺术，致力于提升人们对菲律宾当代摄影艺术的认识。本次艺术展将展出四位菲律宾艺术家的作品，包括Dex Fernandez、Paulo Vinluan、Jay Yao和MM Yu。他们的作品将展现艺术家们对传统与现代，集体与个人回忆，以及城市空间的感知、探索与发现。
In an age when societal boundaries seem to have been blurred by social media, the gap among nations still persists. This void is mended through educational programs and initiatives, serving as a gateway to neighboring countries and to individuals from all walks of life.
On Aug. 19, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing will hold an opening ceremony for "In Between Spaces — Philippines Art Exhibition." In Between Spaces weaves the education platform together with visual arts to promote awareness on the growth of video art and photography within the Philippine contemporary art landscape. The exhibition maps out artistic visions and investigations from four Filipino artists whose works explore themes of traditions and modernity; collective and personal memory; and the consciousness found in urban spaces.

德克斯·费尔南德斯（Dex Fernandez）为菲律宾人民无论在何种情况下都能坚韧努力生活的精神所感染，并通过他的代表漫画《蜱（Garapata）》向菲律宾人民表达敬意。费尔南德斯的影像《Garanimation: Hobo in Wanderland》表现的是一只六脚蜱在不同画面背景里自由漫步。在该影像展映之初，费尔南德斯让观众参与其中，为小蜱创造出无数可能的背景画，这也将费尔南德斯的个人艺术视野转化为一次集体回忆。同时，创作也反应出个人过去经历，从而达到自我认知和自我实现。现如今，费尔南德斯的作品仍旧在为观众带去新的认知。
Dex Fernandez pays homage to Filipinos' resilience and persistence in thriving under any conditions through his iconic image 'Garapata,' a tick turned into a caricature. In his video installation Garanimation: Hobo in Wanderland, the six-legged creature is set in motion meandering through varying backgrounds. During its initial exhibition, Fernandez allowed the audience to participate and the collaborative piece spawned infinite possibility of terrains for Garapata to explore. The installation's participative nature extended Fernandez's artistic vision into a collective experience. It links us back to one's personal experience of journey, where each shared idea, moment, and creativity allows us to find new paths that forge our way into self-realization and actualization. Now, his work will continue its odyssey into the consciousness of its newfound audience.
保罗·维卢兰（Paolo Vinluan）热衷于传统的手工制作动画和模块化几何图像，这使他能够拆解个人和公共空间的记忆。他的作品以其在菲律宾和美国的居住经历为切入点，探讨在不断变化环境中人的异化和同化。在影像《旅行袋（Valise）》中，维卢兰将动画与现场表演结合在一起，创造出想象的空间，探索创作的复杂和力量。作品《看海（See Waves）》中碎片化的叙述让观众陷入沉思，被维卢兰的个人回忆和艺术思考淹没。
Paolo Vinluan's fascination with traditional hand-made animation and modular geometric images allows him to disentangle memories of personal and public spaces. Trenching from his experience of residing between the Philippines and the United States, his works negotiates between alienation and immersion in an ever-changing environment. In his video Valise where he combines animation with live performance, Vinluan creates imagined spaces while exploring the concept of creation with all its heft and complexity. See Waves' fragment-like narratives can draw the viewers into a contemplative state, submerging us into Vinluan’s personal and artistic musings and recollections.
Jay Yao的作品《回家》是时尚与摄影的巧妙结合，文化认同的相关概念在作品主题的空间与面相间游走。在《回家》中，Yao将著名时尚设计师的服装创意重新带回到了他们的出身地。他将包括奎松省地亚望镇（Tiaong, Quezon）、阿克兰省卡利博市（Kalibo Aklan）与杜马盖地城（Dumaguete City）在内的特定菲律宾地名作为作品的标题进行展现，这一独特的艺术手段为作品增添了叙事深度。菲律宾各省本地的住民身着由设计师制作的服装，这一有趣的内容在《回家》中得以展现。Yao的影像作品鲜活地反映了文化边界的无穷与每位个体间的相互连结，无论他们的种族与背景有着怎样的差异。
Jay Yao’s Homecoming, marries fashion and photography while traversing the concept of cultural identity through the spaces and faces of his subjects. In Homecoming, Yao introduces well-known fashion designer's couture collection to their province of origins. In using locations as titles such as Tiaong Quezon, Kalibo Aklan and Dumaguete City, Yao devices specificity as a means to add depth into his works’ narrative. The photographs present the provinces' locals donning cosmopolitan wardrobes crafted by the designers. Yao's images raise a poignant reflection on cultural boundlessness and the interconnectivity of each individual, regardless of race and background.
MM Yu的照片以其捕捉到马尼拉大都会街头的美丽和混乱共存而闻名。她的作品引导观众反思城市景观并得以自省。在她的系列作品《无题景（Untitled Landscapes）》中，Yu带领观众走到城市的每个角落，穿越定格在时刻中的故事。 Yu关于马尼拉市区的作品连接形象与抽象，创造出一组可以同时探究表面和深层的影像。她的作品展示了在一个向现代化转型的国家中，城市景观的不断调整、变化。
Known for her photos highlighting the streets of Metro Manila, MM Yu captures both beauty and chaos in equal measure. Her works allows the viewer to ruminate the urban landscapes while providing a vantage point for introspection. In her series Untitled Landscapes, Yu transports her audience to each corner of the city and leads them through the narratives fossilized in each moment. Yu's snapshot of urban Manila mediates between the figurative and the abstract, creating an interplay of images that interrogates what is seen and unseen at the same time. Her works showcases a dialogue reciprocated by images of cityscapes within a country transitioning towards modernity.
