英国新首相上线！鲍里斯·约翰逊发表激情演讲：沉睡的巨人要崛起
经过近两个月的激烈角逐，英国保守党新任党魁于当地时间23日尘埃落定。
经全英16万保守党成员投票，鲍里斯·约翰逊（Boris Johnson）以显著优势领先对手杰里米·亨特（Jeremy Hunt），成为英国保守党新任领袖，同时也成为了英国的新任首相。

鲍里斯胜选后发表了一番激情演讲，宣布自己接下来的目标是：
“Deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn.”
实现脱欧、团结英国、击败杰里米·科尔宾（反对党工党党魁）。
他说，英国就像沉睡的巨人，将要崛起（like some slumbering giant, we are going to rise）。

现年55岁的鲍里斯·约翰逊曾于2008年至2016年连续两届担任伦敦市长，并于2016至2018年担任英国外交大臣，后因“脱欧”主张与时任英国首相特蕾莎·梅不合，辞去了外长的职务。
今年6月，在梅首相宣布辞去党首职务后，鲍里斯便加入到保守党党魁争夺战中。
尽管他的一头金发似乎总是不听话，衣品也常常被人吐槽，时不时还会说错话，甚至在相对严谨而保守的英国政坛中常常做出一些堪称“怪诞”的举动，但这仍不妨他一路以压倒性的优势领先对手，备受党内青睐，最终顺利出任英国首相一职。
他的身上，究竟有何魅力呢？
资料显示，鲍里斯担任伦敦市长期间，伦敦的社会治安显著提升。
The homicide rate in London—which includes murder and manslaughter —fell from 22 per million to 12 per million people during his time as mayor.

Police numbers in London rose slightly, from 31,460 to 32,125, between March 2008 and March 2016. Across England and Wales in that period the number of officers fell by 17,603.

He said police need more money to get officers on the streets and made a pledge to increase numbers by 20,000 by 2022. He backs stop-and-search and pledged to give police the political protection "to do what they signed up to do".
他表示警方需要更多资金让警察上街维护治安，承诺到2022年增加2万名警察。他支持警察对可疑人员进行拦截和搜查，并承诺给予警察政治保护，以便让他们“做他们该干的事”。

There was an increase in the number of affordable homes built - 101,525 by the end of March 2016, of which the Greater London Authority contributed to 94,001.

One of his most famous transport initiatives was the so-called "Boris Bike" cycle scheme, introduced in July 2010.

Mr Johnson regularly promoted the hire bikes by riding them himself and the number of rentals reached more than 10.3 million during his last year as mayor.

He described it as leading the UK into the "status of a colony", in his resignation letter, in July 2018.

Mr Johnson has continued to insist that the UK can and should leave the EU by 31 October, with or without a deal.

And above all I want to thank our outgoing leader, Theresa May for her extraordinary service to this party and to this country.

It was a privilege to serve in her Cabinet and to see the passion and determination that she brought to the many causes that are her legacy - from equal pay for men and women, to tackling the problems of mental health and racial discrimination in the criminal justice system.

And I know that there will be people around the place who will question the wisdom of your decision.

And there may even be some people here who still wonder quite what they have done.

I would just point out to you of course nobody, no one party, no one person has a monopoly of wisdom.

And we know the mantra of the campaign that has just gone by, in case you have forgotten it and you probably have, it is deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn — and that is what we are going to do.

And like some slumbering giant, we are going to rise and ping off the guy ropes of self-doubt and negativity, with better education, better infrastructure, more police, fantastic full-fibre broadband sprouting in every household — we are going to unite this amazing country and we are going to take it forward.
