Crayfish is a delicious food on Chinese table,but have you ever thought that it would become a research focus in school?
BinTai is a doctoral student from Pakistan, he came to China to study crayfish farming after graduating from Pakistan,he and his students from Egypt and Vietnam studied the emerging major at Huazhong Agricultural University.
When he came to Hubei province,he was attracted by the tasty and inexpensive Chinese crayfish,he dreams of a day when every Pakistani will be able to eat delicious and cheap crayfish.
Crayfish,usually served spicy with cold beer on hot summer nights in China, has jumped from dining tables to classrooms.Some colleges in China launched a program to enroll students in a crayfish major and award them official certificates after graduation to produce more cooks and managers for the booming industry.
Native to North America, the species was brought to east China's Jiangsu Province by a Japanese merchant in the 1920s or 1930s.They appeared in the plain about 30 years ago,villagers found the tasty crayfish and turned it into big business.
Chinese consumption of crayfish has jumped by one third to 879,300 tonnes a year over the past two years.The nationwide craze has boosted the crayfish cooking profession,valued at 146.6 billion yuan ($21.58billion),the industry employs over 5 million people,they can earn a monthly salary of up to 30,000 yuan.
Many universities in China are planning to expand the major of "crayfish college",and they will increase the cultivation of various majors, including the rice-crayfish farming,etc.In many parts of China,villagers develop ecological aquaculture by raising crayfish in lotus pond and explore more ways to increase incomes, people who do this work can earn one million RMB one year by raising crayfish.
