蔡磊沿用其惯常的挤压与分割方法，只不过，这次是先行对一间展厅采取行动，空间一改旧容，有限的面积被压缩后形成的狭窄甬道成为通向艺术家新近作品的幽秘入口。蔡磊似乎有意从一开始即营造出一种时间的豁口被骤然收拢的情境，密集的刻度与旋转的指针被调停，空间内与外的强制且精心的分割，实则是时间由疾变缓、由流淌至凝结的倏变。从迅捷躁动的外部时空，蛰身观望水泥与青铜卷土重建的毛胚房和单元楼梯，观众感受着来自艺术家内心的矛盾与自省。
当技术和材料不成为束缚，创作就应验了更大程度的自由。由于对空间的深度迷恋，蔡磊长期截取来自建筑内部的元素，用混凝土重塑微观的毛胚房（遍布时代的工业景象），用青铜与金箔建造楼梯纪念碑（灾难后重拾的人生轨迹），他同时调用绘画、雕塑以及装置等多元媒介，来展开对问题意识的持续深入（现实中国），并拓展出不同时期的创作路径。在蔡磊营造的由建筑剖开从而转向被压缩的空间内形制迥异的作品，呈现着庄严、肃穆、冷峻的面目，它们无不时刻提醒着人们，关于此刻与此在。

Cai Lei follows his usual method of compressing and dividing, but this time, he acts on the gallery first, transforming the former appearance of the space. The limited area is compressed to form a narrow canal that becomes a secret entrance to the artist's recent works. From the very beginning, Cai Lei intends to create a situation where the openings in time are suddenly closed, where the dense measures and rotating hands are stopped, and where the forced and elaborate division between the inside and outside of the space is, in fact, a swift change from fast to slow, from flowing to condensing time. Turning away from the rapid and agitated external space and time, one turns around to look at the concrete and bronze reconstructed houses and staircases, getting a sense of the artist's inner contradiction and self-reflection.
When technology and materials are no longer obstacles, art practices are proven to exercise a greater degree of freedom. Out of his deep fascination with space, Cai Lei has drawn elements from the building interior, reshaped roughcast housing microscopically with concrete (industrial scenes of the era) and built staircases monuments with bronze and gold leaf (life trajectories regained after disasters), while adopting multiple media such as painting, sculpture and installation to further develop the issues he raised and explores (the reality of China) to expand his creative paths of different periods. In Cai Lei's works, shifting from architecturally dissected artworks to compressed spaces, present dignified, solemn, and austere impressions, which are a constant reminder of the here and now.

蔡磊是一位十分重视形式表达的艺术家，其作品有着浓郁的构成主义特点。然而对所谓“有意味的形式”似乎并不是艺术家真正的追求。虽然作品的语汇仍具有现代主义的特征，但内部的形式并不是自律的、静态的、封闭的，反而充满了不确定性、不稳定感。同时，对材料“物性”的强调使作品具有雕塑化的特点，但置身于墙面的展示方式，又使其分享属于架上绘画的观看经验。从这个角度讲，蔡磊的作品是一个复杂的综合体，它介于雕塑与装置之间，在形式建构的过程中则隐含着解构的力量。

Cai Lei
Cai Lei was born in 1983 Changchun, Jilin, China. Cai Lei graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Sculpture at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing.
Cai is an artist who pays meticulous attention to formal expression, and his works feature robust constructivist traits. However, the so-called "meaningful form" does not seem to be the artist's genuine pursuit. Although his works still have modernism features, the internal form is not self-disciplined, static, and closed but full of uncertainty and instability. Simultaneously, the emphasis on the "physical properties" of the materials brings sculptural elements to the works. However, displaying on the wall allows them to share the viewing experience that belongs to the easel painting. From this perspective, Cai Lei's work is a complex mixed between sculpture and installation, and in the process of forming construction, it implies the power of deconstruction.
