Kyohei Sakaguchi, born in Kumamoto, Japan, 1978, lives and works in Tokyo
Kyohei Sakaguchi has a background in architecture. He has worked on sustainable land use, and for his famous "Zero Yen House" project, from which he developed this series entitled Digital, he takes inspiration from self-occupied houses in Tokyo built with recycled materials. In the "Zero Yen House" project, Sakaguchi challenges the concept of urbanization by documenting and visiting the "zero yen houses" (self-built houses); in encountering their inhabitants, he began to rethink concepts of ownership of land. He constantly explores the conflict between the city and the natural environment, along with how urbanization engulfs its inhabitants. In the "Digital" prints, Sakaguchi depicts cluttered buildings, stretching like a jungle, enclosing the inhabitants, rendering a dystopian urban landscape.
