Highway Toll Collector Let a Driver Pass Freely and Paid for Him

Recently, a car was passing through a highway toll station in Yiyang, Hunan province, but the toll collector quickly let the car pass without charging the driver. He was recorded on the surveillance camera saying "just go, I'll pay the money." So, what exactly happened?
It is reported that on that day, due to the vehicle's ETC equipment malfunction, the driver tried so many times but the tollgate didn't let him pass. And it didn't help that the driver didn't have cash on him to pay for the fee (who carries cash these days anyway?)
Li Daojie, the toll collector on duty at the time told the driver that there is something wrong with ETC equipment on his car. The driver turned to him and said anxiously:
"My child is not feeling well, I'm taking her to the hospital, please let me go!"
Li Daojie, after confirming that there was a child in the car and seeing the driver shedding tears, immediately let him go, saying:
"Don't worry just go, I'll pay the money!"
He then opened the tollgate manually and let the driver pass.
Later that day, the driver returned to the toll station and with the help of the staff on duty at the time, he was able to contact Li Daojie. He explained that he didn't have cash on him that morning because he left in a hurry.
He also apologized to him because he used bad language when he was talking to him that morning. Finally he thanked him for helping out.
The two have since become friends and Li Daojie has learned that the man was taking his 10 month old niece to the hospital that day. She suddenly got sick and needed medical attention. She is now in a stable condition and is admitted at the hospital for further treatment.

The driver gave back the amount that Li Daojie paid for him.
When interviewed by reporters, Li Daojie said "This is the first time something like this happened, when I saw the child suffering I felt bad so I let them pass quickly. I am a father myself so I understood his urgency at the time."
