Recently, many Chinese students were stopped and questioned by the US border inspection and law enforcement officers when they were entering the country through Los Angeles.
A dozen of them have reported that they were repeatedly questioned about their purpose of studying in the United States, past academic achievements, employment records, whether they have "stolen" laboratory data etc.
A few of them have also reported that they were threatened, intimidated and had even been put under restrictions for dozens of hours. After going through all this, some were eventually refused entry and repatriated.
In addition, some Chinese students were interrogated by US law enforcement officers and their personal electronic equipments were confiscated when they were trying to exit the country to return home.
The embassy has already lodged a solemn representation to the US side in this regard, urging the US side to correct its mistakes and stop using various excuses to unreasonably restrict and suppress Chinese students.
The Consulate General in Los Angeles hereby reminds Chinese students studying in the US to improve their safety awareness, pay attention to the possible risks encountered during entry and exit, strengthen prevention and properly deal with them.
