Occasionally encountered in our life,
Frequently found in the sea of data,
Lots of artistic values that have been found and promoted in daily lives,
are based on our time, keen insight and the pursuit of life.
“I am not an instrument player but a designer in this field.” ----Lyota Yagi

The Opening Ceremony of Vessels for Memories - Lyota Yagi Solo Exhibition was held in TC101 SAPCE in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen on November 13th, and this exhibition will last up to December 24th.
Professor Shuguang Cui, the Executive Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, attended the Opening Ceremony. During his speech, Prof. Cui said that the exhibition was a breakthrough in terms of art mindset, and it has reflected the relationship among different things in artists’ daily life.
Prof. Cui and Ms. Dorothy Wong, the Director of University Arts Centre and Administrative Services Office presented a souvenir to Mr. Lyota Yagi.

The exhibition presents Mr. Yagi’s extraordinary vision of “Medium”. For thousands of years, humans have never stopped improving medium. Ever since the ancient times, people communicated with the outside world with stone slabs; while in the modern times, people started to use paper to exchange information and nowadays, electric currents have made the transmission of medium possible......

In the exhibition, Yagi has showed us a more distant era. In his work “The Melting Music”, the ice age is transformed into a modern vinyl record which carries the physically and spiritually pleasant sound.
Silicon molds and a refrigerators are used to make this icy record. This is a simple configuration yet reveals a crucially important idea of the artist, that is the breakthrough of mediums----Why not use ice to carry information? Ice can melt and similarly, information can “melt” as time goes by.
We are not only appreciating the melting of icy record but listening to the story about frozen time and memory for the first time.

Mr. Yagi also took part in the layout of exhibition. He carefully connected the wires, circuits and controllers as well as welding and assembling them. Just as what he mentioned, “I am not an instrument player but a designer in this field.”
If we hold the view that other artists make their designs in a three-dimensional world, then Yagi shall be the one finishing his creation in a four-dimensional world. The running of time features exactly its dimensions. With the theme of Memory, this exhibition aims to help people have a better understanding of time and cherish it.
Speaking of the inspirations of future design, Yagi shared his ideas that, “I want to capture what humans cannot hear and see.” Since human beings could only hear parts of sound waves and see parts of light waves, other parts beyond them could also be defined as light. Yagi has been breaking the limits and concentrating on a broader world.
When walking out of the exhibition hall, people would embrace another world where spaces are not limited and that’s what Yagi has been dedicating himself to creating so as to empower more people with surprising memories.
