Dean's Message 院长之声丨Happy New Year! 新年快乐阖家安康！

To family and friends of ZIBS,

As we approach the end of 2022, a year of phenomenal importance, please join me to reflect upon and celebrate what we collectively have achieved at ZIBS.

We have further refined our strategy and sharpened our focus on building a Technology-Focused Premier Global Business School from China (科创型全球化商学院) with our continued emphases on 3 strategic pillars: Global (全球化) ZIBS, Digital (数字化) ZIBS, and The ZIBS Ecosystem (生态化).

We have grown our ZIBS family to 700 members, including students, staff and scholars, from over 60 countries, making us one of the most international, inclusive and diverse educational institutions from China. Congratulations to everyone and our International Admissions team in particular.

We have increased our program portfolio by adding iMFA (Master of Fine Arts) and iMDS (Master of Data Science) programs to our degree programs, which now include 6 master and 1 bachelor programs. We have also welcomed our first cohort of PhD students. Our Program Officers have been quick climbing the learning curve to partner with different functions.  

We have completed the initial build-up of our Faculty Team and our priority on investing in young talents has started paying off. Professor LEI Linan (雷李楠), Professor ZHOU Wenyu (周闻宇) and more are winning peer recognitions from home and abroad. Our Faculty Committee has been established and is expected to play a more active role.

We have moved to our ZIBS New Building, after 15 months of non-stop hardworking effort against the backdrop of the pandemic control measures, a remarkable achievement on its own and an important milestone for ZIBS as we celebrated our 4th anniversary and carry our torch to the second stage of our exciting development.

We have scaled up our administration & management team and instilled an increasingly rigorous performance-driven culture (有作为才有地位) through introduction of some best practices such as the OKR (Objectives & Key Results) to better reflect and serve the needs of our dynamic ZIBS growth trajectory.

We have built up the capacity of our Dean’s Office based on the feedback from our periodic reviewing and refining of our organization structure to better support and meet the ever-changing challenges & opportunities: from the increasing scale and scope of our business to new emerging strategic opportunities.

We have augmented our organization by formalizing Student Affairs Center, launching our ZIBS Innovation Center (创新创业中心), Alumni Association with our first cohort iMBA and iMF having graduated, and WeLearn Ltd. (海纳惟学) to support and serve the innovation & entrepreneurship initiatives by our students and staff alike, in both ZIBS and beyond.

We have upgraded our Global ZIBS strategy by establishing a dedicated International Division, launching China-Latin American Center (拉丁美洲中心) and China-Africa Center (非洲中心). We have now assembled a team of distinguished members for our International Advisory Board (国际顾问委员会), which we plan to officially announce in 1H2023.

We have successfully implemented Phase I of Digital ZIBS strategy with the launch of our Metaverse Campus (元宇宙校区), probably the first of its kind in the world, relaunched our bilingual websites and expanded our activities on all major social media channels, in both Chinese and English.

We have a more robust ZIBS ecosystem with expanded presence in Beijing through Beijing FIRST (北京前沿金融监管科技研究院), and Hangzhou whereby we have refocused our AIF (浙江大学金融科技研究院), and its partnership with Zhejiang Association of FinTech (浙江数字金融科技联合会). The diversity of ZIBS ecosystem has proven to be a key ZIBS differentiator.

We have made official appearances with ZIBS faculty speaking and sharing their research insights at prestigious conferences and conventions such as World Economic Forum, Financial Street Forum (北京金融街论坛), China Import Expo (中国进口博览会) and Global Digital Trade Expo (全球数字贸易博览会).

We have added CFA Institute, CISI, CEEMAN etc. as our Ecosystem Partners, and established new research centers such as Center For Chinese Multinationals (中国民营企业国际化研究中心) thanks to the valuable support we have received from All China Federation of Industry & Commerce (ACFIC) and its Zhejiang Branch (全国工商联系统) as well as corporate partners.

We have enhanced our organizational capacity of Haining Academy (海商学堂), with formal governance structure in place.  Together with our first dedicated Executive Education Program personnel already on board, it is poised to innovate our platform effectively serving our community, both public institutions and private sectors.

As we continue our journey into 2023, let me share with you some of our preliminary priorities in the new year, which are summarized below as Top 10 ZIBS Priorities in 2023:
