Pistolera Mexican Restaurant Opens in Jing'an

The Bling Pig, barbecue and bar in Jing’an has converted their second floor space to house a branch of Pistolera. That makes three locations of the Mexican restaurant, operated by True Legend restaurant group (Pistolera, Blind Pig, Big Bamboo).

The menu remains the same, which includes variations of popularized Mexican fare—queso fundido, quesadillas, nachos, street food favorites like empanadas and tamales, saucy and rice-heavy entrees, burritos, fajitas, tacos, and more.

Included with every meal are unlimited servings of tortilla chips and three sauces of varying intensities to dip, all made fresh daily.

4 Things To Order at Pistolera

The Chili (¥78), a long time favorite, remains unchanged in portion and taste—it’s been that way since the former chef Leonardo “Tabasco” Guerrero put it on the menu all those years ago. (His recipes are still being used at Pistolera today.)

It’s rich, smoky, and chocolaty, with a slow, creeping heat. Finely ground meat, beans, and spices give the chili its thickness, topped with melted Monterrey Jack cheese and queso fresco. Choose either cheddar and jalapeno stuffed corn gorditas or white rice. I opt for the latter.

Queso Fundido with Chorizo (¥70) is a cast iron skillet of cheese topped with crumbled fried chorizo. It comes with four fluffy flour tortillas, which you pack with servings of salty melted cheese. Recommended as a sharing dish.

Rib Eye Steak Tacos (¥75) — flash grilled rib eye steak topped with guacamole and pico de gallo. It’s a hefty serving.

For dessert, get the Lime-Avocado Cream Pie (¥58). It’s creamy with just a smidgen of gelatin to hold it together, and has a high citrus note that tickles the corners behind your jaw.

Service is good and attentive.

The music—top 40 reggaeton—will hopefully change soon. Same goes for the Bloody Mary, which could use some improvement.

The sports screens are still up, and there’s a small patio with bar tables, plus an upstairs terrace for events. There are deals every day of the week for happy hours and BOGO.
