Wayne Hou of Dalian’s Brooklyn Bar and Restaurant is making pizzas at Liquid Laundry. The Chicago-born pizza chef has been working on the other famed Chicago pizza, the crunchy, cracker-thin tavern-style pizza. He’ll be serving up five 14’’ pizzas—four cheese, fennel sausage, meatball and ricotta, potato-bacon-scallion, and a vegan option of spinach, artichoke, and sun-dried tomatoes. Pizzas are ¥98-135.

Have you had mead before? If you haven't, new mead brand Hoop & Horn is hosting a food-mead-beer pairing at Beer Barrel on Thursday for ¥218. That gets you an three-course meal, proscuitto starter and roasted duck main paired with mead and cheesecake with barrel-aged cherry sour beer. Brewed using raw honey, Hoop & Horn is a sweet and mellow honey liquor that has a smooth mouthfeel and fruity body; 12% abv.

Chefs come together for Heritage by Madison with three “Heritage Sessions” lined up. Vol #2 - True Comfort has chefs Michael Wendling (Cuivre), Sean Jorgensen (The Cannery), Simon Sunwoo (Liquid Laundry), Lorraine Li (Inward), Hardeep Somal (Bull & Claw), and Blake Thornley (Oha Group) representing. Beaujolais Nouveau is a specific bottling made from Gamay grapes that is released every year on the third Thursday of November. RAC is celebrating the event with a barbecue and a special menu of nearly 20 Beaujolais wines. Wines by the glass from ¥70, snack foods and cold plates from ¥50, BBQ from ¥40—sausages, ribs, chicken, baguette, and lamb racks—and couscous sets for ¥98/168.

Le Cafe Des Stagiaires is celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau with a raclette bar and bottles of wine. Chef Carlos Sotomayor is back in Shanghai for spell, and is cooking Peruvian food with a series of pop-ups all over town. He’s got the food shift at Mikkeller on Saturday, doing a mash-up of Peruvian food. Big plates of creamy rice with crispy pork belly, wagyu anticucho, shredded chicken hot pockets, and juicy beef baozi.

Tomatito is elevating their regular brunch to a 14-course menu including six wines to pair for ¥498 per person. Wine selected curated by Ray Shen from Ray Fine Wine, and joining them will be guest mixologist Ilya Khokhlov. Menu includes iberico ham, caviar, oysters, manchego cheese gougeres, crab, balik salmon, scallops, oxtail consomme, prawns, pork cheek and dessert.
Dress code is 70s/80s elegant. Best dressed wins a magnum-sized bottle of Prosecco worth ¥999.

[EVENT POSTPONED] Tastebuds Xmas Market by Sherpa’s is happening this weekend at the 1933 Old Millfun. It’ll be a global street fair with food and drink vendors, booths of local designers, fashion, crafts, and knick-knacks.
Food and drink includes Latin American BBQ, pizza, burritos, fresh baked pastries, beer, cocktails and more. And yes, there will be gluhwein. There will be a children’s play zone, and live performances of indie musicians, dancers and DJ sets. There’s also a “swap and sale” area for you to exchange clothes, home decor, etc. Free entry.

DRiNK Awards is coming up! And The Piazza at Jing An Kerry Centre is turning into DRiNK Street, a drink-focused street market comprised of 20 bars accompanied by food vendors and live entertainment. Some of the country’s top talents will be repping their venues, shaking up quality drinks priced ¥50 or under.
From around China there’s Jackwing Yao (Sanyou, GZ), Li Tong (Lotus Lounge, GZ), Evening Standard (GZ), Kiwi (P.O.P. Bar, GZ) and Ross Woodford (Life on Mars, SZ).
