On The Menu
Food & Drink
RŌZO 芦苇 has a small food menu of Pan-Asian inspired dishes. It's all delicious, courtesy of consulting chef Carlos Sotomayor from Blue Plate Consulting.
Here is what to expect for food:
Tartare Bites (¥105) - Tartare seasoned with a hint of wasabi on a crispy potato slice, topped with caviar. A must-order.
Smoked Salmon Dip (¥108) - A rillette of creamy salmon, served with sourdough bread.
Hamachi Crudo (¥88) - Hamachi quick cured in coconut and citrus sauce topped with mango and salmon roe, served with a side of wasabi. Definitely utilize that wasabi and mix well.
Octopus (¥95) - A whole octopus leg that's cooked until tender and grilled, served with black olive mayonnaise and nori chips. This is excellent.
Lobster Roll (¥158) - Chunks of lobster atop crab salad with dynamite sauce and Sriracha.
RŌZO Foie Gras (¥92) - Foie torchon with a spicy red pepper aioli, served with herbs, lettuce, and sourdough bread. Great for sharing.
Okonomiyaki (¥78) - Inspired by the popular Japanese pancake, this version swaps out the potato-egg batter for roasted potatoes instead. In the bowl is slow-cooked short rib doused in Bulldog sauce topped with shaved cabbage. It's every bit as tasty and it's quite substantial.
Pineapple Carpaccio (¥48) - A refreshing palate cleanser of thinly sliced pineapple with juniper berry sauce and crushed nuts.
Cake in the Jar (¥55) - Chocolate cake with a thick chocolate ganache, topped with fruit and crushed pistachios.
There's also "Voyage", a wine pairing set for ¥150 that includes three wines to taste and three bites. This will change on a monthly basis, showcasing new wines paired with simple yet tasty bites.
On this wine set, it's three toasts topped with a creamy crab salad with cajun butter spread, biltong (cured beef) with apricot mostarda, and truffle torched brie with pickled grapes.
Those bites are paired with a bright white wine from Bordeaux that's a mix of sauvignon blanc, sémillon, and sauvignon gris, a red cabernet franc from Loire Valley, and a super funky red blend of syrah, carignan, and grenache. The white was a favorite for me, followed by the cabernet franc. The last one was too funky for my liking, but my dining companion enjoyed it. If you're into wine discovery, this is for you.
In addition to wines, they have some cocktails.
Bloody Maria (¥65) made with tequila, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, celery salt, black pepper, and lemon juice; Basil Fizz (¥68) made with basil and pepper infused gin, lemon juice, angostura bitters and topped with soda water.
It's a nice neighborhood wine bar with good ambience that's more chill than the other venues along the Yanping Lu strip. It just opened, and more dishes will be added to the menu shortly.
