Praise be, spring is here. Take advantage of the al fresco season as much as you can.
Here are 11 restaurants and bars with excellent terraces around Shanghai plus info on their drink deals. Note that most of these terraces are dog-friendly—check the listing details for that tag.

The Sukhothai Shanghai has just completed a major upgrade, right in time for the warm weather months. They’ve added a beautiful Thai-inspired garden terrace that extends from The ZUK Bar to Urban Cafe, complete with gazebo, water feature, rattan swing sets, and outdoor heaters (for when it gets a little nippy). The ZUK Bar (and terrace) is open from 12pm-midnight. As for food, they have a menu of Mediterranean-inspired bites and Southeast Asian cuisine. The terrace is also open for lunch.
Drinks Situation: The ZUK Bar has a daily happy hour from 4-7pm, offering 50% off selected
beers, bottles of wine, long drinks (highballs and the like), and
classic cocktails. Plus, groups of six or more will receive a
complimentary bottle of Prosecco.

Charlie's Beer Garden just opened in Jing'an's hotbed intersection (Wuding Lu x Yanping Lu). They have an epic rooftop terrace that's perfectly conducive for guzzling down pints of Great Leap, their partner brewery for this location. Like all Charlie’s locations, it’s dog-friendly and they have dog treats.
Drinks Situation: From March 12, they’ll be kicking off their Pizza & Beer happy hour. Every Monday to Friday from 2-8pm, get any mini 9-inch pizza and two glasses of Great Leap craft beer for just ¥100. After March, they’ll be locking in selected flavors of pizza/beer instead of giving you the run of the menu.

Located in Xintiandi, Highline has one of the city’s best downtown views. It’s a modern American restaurant and bar, serving some polished yet heavy hitting American fare as well as some excellent desserts.
Drinks Situation: Every Monday to Friday from 4-7pm, buy-one-get-one beers (from ¥48), highballs (from ¥68), wines by the glass (from ¥78). Plus, get 50% off champagne by the bottle, all day Friday.

Tacolicious, home of the double-shell tacos,
has more than a dozen different kinds of toppings for your taco
stuffing needs. Ranging from the traditional asados and al pastor to
beef bulgogi and Sichuan twice-cooked pork, the toppings also apply to
their burritos, loaded fries, quesadillas, taco bowls, and nachos. Party
in the back—I’m referring to the terrace here—where there’s plenty of
space to lounge around.
Drinks Situation: Everyday from 5-8pm, reduced prices on drinks; wine from ¥30, beer from ¥25, frozen margaritas from ¥40, cocktails from ¥50. There’s also Margarita Thursdays, frozen margaritas for ¥40 from 6pm until close.

Casual Italian restaurant and bar D.O.C.
on Dagu Lu has nearly two dozen kinds of pizza on the menu along with
pastas, risottos, salads, and Italian snacky foods. It’s generally
pretty quiet on Dagu Lu, so if you’re looking for a change of scenery,
it’s worth checking out.
Drinks Situation: A drinks deal that counts down by the hour—the earlier you go, the cheaper the drinks.
Everyday from 3-7pm, get reduced prices on Aperol Spritz, Campari
Spritz, house wine, Peroni, and arancini. Drinks start at ¥25 and
increase five kuai each hour.

Established in 2003 by founder Cotton Ding, Cotton’s is one of the longest standing restaurant bars in Shanghai. There are two locations, both housed in beautiful historical villas
with expansive, enclosed terraces. The menu at Cotton's features a wide
range of Western dishes from pizzas to pastas, salads to skewers, and
burgers to steaks.
Drinks Situation:
Reduced prices every Monday to Friday from 4-7pm. Wines by the glass
starts from ¥48, bottles from ¥198; hour pour mixed drinks are ¥45,
draft beer from ¥40.

PoZ is a bistro/cafe/wine bar in the same villa that houses Coconut Paradise on Fumin Lu. It’s
mostly French food on the menu with the likes of cordon bleu, frog
legs, and cassoulet, with the exception of a new Asian-skewed dishes
like lemongrass mussels.
Drinks Situation: Buy-one-get-one selected beverages every Tuesday to Friday from 3-7pm. Drinks on the happy hour include beer, house wine, Aperol, and G&Ts.

Located towards the back of Shankang Li is American BBQ restaurant Bubba’s,
purveyor of glorious smoked meats, tacos, wings, and belt-busting
burgers. They also have some vegetarian options too. Bubba’s is the only
restaurant in that area of the F&B hub, therefore, they lay claim
to a huge outdoor space. Big plus: Bubba’s is very dog-friendly; water
bowls provided if you ask, and they have dog-friendly snacks.
Drinks Situation: Happy hour is everyday from 5-8pm, reduced prices on drinks. During happy hour, draft beer starts from ¥25, craft beer from ¥35, shots from ¥35, cocktails from ¥45, and ¥10 off all wines.

Legend Hospitality Group (Pistolera, Big Bamboo, The Blind Pig) opens a
dedicated brick and mortar named after its craft beer brand on Fumin
Lu. The food at Beast of the East Social House is a bit
of everything from the group’s existing and previous concepts—charcoal
& grilled seafood and steaks, oysters, mussels, brick oven pizzas
and burgers, pizza, loaded nachos, Southeast Asian fare, sandwiches,
etc. You name it, they probably have it. Like most of the venues on the
Fumin Lu strip, Beast of the East Social House covets a slice of the
sidewalk that’s great for people watching.
Drinks Situation: Happy hour is everyday from 3pm-7pm, reduced prices on drinks. During happy hour, it's 35% for all alcoholic drinks; draft beer from ¥30, shots from ¥33, cocktails from ¥36, and wine ¥32.5.

Bund-side rooftop venue The Fellas is a modern Italian restaurant and bar that serves a range of Italian finger foods and traditional dishes. Expect pizzas, pastas, and show-stopping mains like wagyu steaks and racks of venison.
Drinks Situation: They do a reverse drinks deal, one that starts later rather than earlier. Every evening from 9pm to midnight, get any two gin-based cocktails for ¥98. They also have a rotating theme for Ladies Night on Thursdays—ladies drink for free (!) from 9pm to midnight.

Located in Jiashan Market, Ombra
is housed in a two-story building that boasts a beautiful terrace on
the second floor. The restaurant serves a menu of Western food with a
local twist, featuring charcuterie plates, French toasts, and
share-friendly mains of short rib and steak.
Drinks Situation: Every Monday to Friday from 2-6:30pm, drinks are ¥38, which includes selected cocktails, beer, sparkling, and red and white wine. Additionally, get 20% off the snacks menu.
