3 New Menus: Tomatito, O'Mills Light, KESSHŌ
Three new offerings around town. Tomatito serves up some excellent tapas (plenty of them vegan and delicious) and seafood, O'Mills Light does low-carb and gluten-free pizzas, and chocolate brand KESSHŌ launches their single origin cacao ice cream.

If you’ve been following chef Victor Vieira’s posts during lockdown, you might have noticed him trialing some of Tomatito’s new dishes at home. New bites at the Spanish restaurant are true to its “sexy tapas” moniker, featuring a fantastic heart of palm salad, luxurious seafood dishes, and plenty of delicious vegetarian tapas.
All dishes below are new, unless otherwise specified.
Salmon Bombs (¥118/five) – The signature tapas “salmon explosion” never disappoints. Smoked salmon atop a thin air baguette filled with sour cream, topped with honey and black truffle.
Mumbite (¥35/piece) – Cubes of curried potatoes studded with cumin seeds over sweet raisin chutney on a charcoal tapioca cracker. This cold tapa packs a lot of flavor in one bite, an ode to Vieira’s time spent working at Gaggan.
Beef Bocados (¥98/four) – It’s beef tartare in hors d'oeuvre form. Australian beef tartare is piped into crispy thin rolls, topped with a dollop mayonnaise and mustard seeds.
Mushroom Taquitos (¥85/four) – Diced champignon and porcini mushroom cooked with almond milk, shallots, garlic, and pine nuts, topped with lightly pickled mushrooms.
Coeur de la Mer (¥148/piece) – A sinful bite of top-grade Nagasaki tuna tartare with caviar, salmon roe, sea urchin, and sea grapes. It’s inspired by the Heart of the Ocean from Titanic, to which Vieira teases that he’ll also play Celine Dion whenever it's been ordered.
PPP Piquillo Pork Pepper (¥88/two) – Piquillo peppers stuffed with spicy 6-hour slow-cooked pork served with Tomatito’s own XXX hot sauce.
Pollo 69 (¥75) – Crispy fried chicken bites served with chef’s special 69-condiment sauce blend. Chunky bites of juicy chicken thigh with a crisp beer? Sign me up.
Palmito! (¥118) – Of all the new dishes, this is the most enjoyable. It’s a salad of diced Brazilian heart of palm, Spanish young fava beans, avocado mousse, white bean tartare, green olives, and a mango-chili dressing, studded with quail eggs. It’s citrusy and refreshing with a delightful pillowy texture.
You could say heart of palm is the vegan replacement for scallop. It's divine. Order this!
Vieira (¥105) – Speaking of scallops, this is another signature after chef’s namesake, which means scallop in Spanish. Slices of scallops come in a cold lemongrass and coconut sauce perfumed with lemongrass and kaffir lime oil, served with cubed turmeric-seasoned sweet potatoes and pickled shallots. Another fantastic dish.
Crab in the Mangrove (¥118) – Dungeness crab cooked with paprika and sofrito with ajo blanco (white gazpacho with almond milk) on the top and creamy avocado mousse on the bottom. Served chilled on a bed of ice it’s cool, creamy, and delicate. An excellent dish for the summer.
For dessert, there’s the Arroz con leche y Rosas (¥68), a vanilla rice pudding with yogurt Cassis cream and rose water jelly.
Highly recommend trying the Mumbite, Mushroom Taquitos, Palmito, Vieira, and Crab in the Mangrove.

O'Mills Light Brunch & Bistro
Light Keto Pizzas
Address: Xingfu Li, 381 Panyu Lu, near Xingfu Lu 番禺路381号幸福里, 近幸福路
Tel: 62379299
Hours: 8:30am-10pm
O’Mills Light Brunch & Bistro is, as the name states, a lite iteration of bakery and restaurant O’Mills. It opened early this year in Xingfu Li, and serves a wide variety of low-carb, plant-based, and keto options like bowls and salads, vegan dishes, and by using ingredients like flaxseed powder and almond flour. It’s a cozy space, and they have a dog-friendly patio.
New on the menu are “light keto pizzas” and summer salads. There are five keto pizzas on the menu, ranging from ¥88 to ¥158. The base is made using only almond flour, making it low-carb and gluten-free (but not 100% keto).
The texture, well, obviously isn’t the same as O’Mills’ sourdough crusts. It’s like shortbread-meets-pie crust, a little dense but served thin. As for the size, it’s more of a personal pan. I wouldn't compare them to regular pizzas, it's more of a flatbread. For gluten-free diets, this is a great option.
Keto Rib-Eye Steak and Avocado (¥158) – Rib-eye steak cooked medium rare with mozzarella, gruyere, arugula, and sprouts.
Keto Grilled Eel & Avocado Pizza (¥128) — They’ve taken their rather unique (and rather popular) eel pizza and put it on the keto base. It’s grilled eel, mozzarella, gruyere, furikake, pickled ginger, and seaweed.
Farm Fresh Tomato & Burrata Salad (¥88) – Fresh organic tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, basil, pesto dressing, and of course, burrata cheese. Fresh pesto with a splash of balsamic with cold (not icy) burrata. Can't go wrong. There’s also a Cold Soba salad, also ¥88.
Mango Chia Energy Cup (¥38) – A new twist on an old favorite. It’s a chia seed pudding with coconut milk layered with fresh cubed mango, house toasted oats, and cashew nuts. It’s not sweet, and is refreshing.
Not new, but highly recommend getting their fresh juices. Green Energy (cucumber, pear, kale, spinach) and Sunshine (carrot, ginger, apple, lemon), ¥39 each.

Technically not a new menu, but the new chocolate ice creams from KESSHŌ is definitely worth mentioning. KESSHŌ is a boutique chocolatier that prides itself on being a bean-to-bar brand by making their chocolate treats with single origin cacao beans.
The brand was established in 2019 by Liang (also the founder of Pantry’s Best) and Mark Huetsch, opening its first store in Shankang Li, followed by one in K11. They’ve even won some awards, most recently Cacao of Excellence 2021 Gold Award for their use of beans and International Chocolate Awards 2021 Silver Award for their 58% Tanzania milk chocolate.
In addition to chocolate desserts of bonbons, bars, cakes, tarts, and designer chocolate gift boxes, KESSHŌ now has chocolate ice cream. Just in time for summer, KESSHŌ’s Cacao Voyage is not only an icy treat but is also flavor journey through their single origin cacaos.
The box set (¥192) holds eight cups of ice cream (80g/cup) and features four flavors, made with 70% Tanzanian, 58% Tanzanian, 90% Ghanaian, and 70% Ugandan cacao beans.
I’ve managed to try the 70% Tanzanian and the 90% Ghanaian, both luxuriously rich with bold chocolate flavor. It’s quite unique and few are doing chocolate ice creams of this quality in Shanghai. Treat yourself or gift it to friends who are ice cream/chocolate lovers.
The boxes are available for purchase on KESSHŌ’s WeChat official account / mini-program and at both stores, Shankang Li and K11.
