First Look: Museum of Ice Cream | Opens July 31
World famous ice cream attraction Museum of Ice Cream officially opens in Shanghai on July 31 at Qiantan Taikoo Li. Here’s an exclusive look inside.
About
Museum of Ice Cream
Museum of Ice Cream is a hyper-Instagrammable interactive retail experience founded in 2016 in New York City. There are also locations in Chicago, Singapore, and Austin, Texas.
Shanghai's Museum of Ice Cream is located at Qiantan Taikoo Li, the newest supermall in Pudong. MOIC actually came to Shanghai before, hosting a pop-up in 2018. Let’s say the enthusiasm has not wavered.
Spread across two floors, MOIC is more of a playground than it is a museum, and it is more for a photo op than it is a place to indulge in ice cream. Still, it’s a pretty fun experience, especially for children.
You walk through whimsical ice-cream-themed rooms, vividly designed with installations, games, and play zones. It's so very PINK.
There is a two-floor tall slide, a merry-go-round, and a pool filled with giant plastic sprinklers.
A wishing tree.
A functioning merry-go-round.
Claw yourself some memorabilia.
A room filled with bananas for some reason.
It's so damn Instagrammable.
The kiddie pool.
Hoops.
A slide.
I have to admit, the slide was pretty fun. (All additional images by Carlos Sotomayor.)
For children and those wanting to "feel like a kid again," it's a fun experience. Plus, think of all the super cute photos you’ll take!
Ticket price includes a complimentary ice cream at the end.
If you want just the ice cream, you can just walk into Marye’s Diner, the ground floor gift shop and ice cream parlor.

Ice Creams
MOIC has teamed up with Shake Shack to supply the icy sweet treats.
On the menu are three MOIC exclusive products: Strawberry Yuzu Boozy Lemonade (¥35), The Pink Fantasy Concrete (¥42/single, ¥61/double), and Raspberry Cheesecake Frozen Custard (¥35/ ¥42) in a cup or in a cone.
The Pink Fantasy Concrete, MOIC exclusive – Made with vanilla frozen custard blended with raspberry cheesecake, topped with raspberry purée, raspberry powder, dried cherry sprinkle, and crushed shortbread cookie.
Stay Up All Night – Vanilla frozen custard blended with coffee extracts and caramel cookies, topped with cinnamon powder.
There’s also Open Sesame Concrete on the “secret menu.”
Open Sesame Concrete (¥39/¥58) - Chocolate and vanilla custard with black tahini paste, palmier cookies, chocolate chunks, and black sesame.
Strawberry Yuzu Boozy Lemonade – Tastes like a boozed up, syrupy Gatorade.
There are four other Concretes (the name of Shake Shack’s signature fresh frozen custard aka ice cream in sundae form) for ¥39/single, ¥58/double, shakes, and plain frozen custards.
Getting In
How To Buy Tickets
You’re looking at these images thinking, “Wow, it’ll be flooded with people taking photos.” Well, to ensure that visitors have a good time, MOIC does some form of crowd-control and limits the capacity by splitting entry into 30-minute sessions.
Entry to MOIC is ¥168 per person, which includes access to all the themed rooms, plus a complimentary custard at the end. You can also get 3 tickets for ¥468, but it only comes with one free custard. Tickets are available via the QR Code below.
