WUHAN WELCOMES XI JINPING – CHINA TURNING TIDE ON CORONAVIRUS.

It is always a sign of confidence for citizens of Wuhan to know that they are being paid a visit by the country’s Commander in Chief. The President Xi Jinping paid a surprise visit to the epicenter of COVID-19 as a gesture of support for the Wuhanees and also signaling the success of China in fight against the coronavirus as the number of cases throughout the country declines by each passing day.

The virus which has spread out in various countries throughout the world is being defeated successfully by the measures put in place by the Chinese government as the cases dropped dramatically in China. The visit shows confidence of the China’s Communist Party in its fight against the virus. It was the President’s first visit to the city of roughly 11 million people since the lockdown was put in place in late January. 

This visit will also boost the confidence in foreign enterprises, investors and individuals, specially those who are currently presented in China or are planning their return to China. The latest data regarding the number of cases is also very motivating for the Chinese citizens as well as foreigners as China has reported just 19 new cases on tuesday marking the lowest number of cases since nationwide reporting began. It is also to be noted that the new infections have been “imported  cases” rather than cases spread from within China.

The President talking about the fight against the coronavirus said that it has been “basically curbed” in Wuhan as well as the neighboring Hubei Province resulting in China’s success in stabilizing the situation and “turning the tide” in their favor.

The President accompanied by party and military officials also talked to coronavirus patients through a video chat on a large digital screen and said,

Now what you must do is fortify your faith, we will definitely win this battle. Wuhan must be victorious, Hubei must be victorious, and all of China must be victorious.

He also spoke with the Huoshenshan hospital’s medical workers through the screen. The hospital is one of the several facilities built expressly for the coronavirus response. He also visited residential neighborhood and greeted the community workers along with praising them for their frontline work in looking after the quarantined residents locked in their homes.

This visit was a moment of relief for many as President Xi’s appearance in Wuhan bolstered citizens’ hopes that life in China will soon return back to normal. It has been a test for China but one should never let the hopes die and always believe in seeing the light after the tunnel.
