A friend of yours would come to your country for a visit. Which tool of transportation do you recommend him to use?

I highly recommend the CRH, which stands for the China Railway High-speed. Although some people may prefer airplane, saying that it’s usually faster. However, since airports are located in the suburbs, it takes much time to get there. Also, it can be rather inconvenient if we have to catch the early flight considering the fact that the security check may require that passengers arrive at the airport in small hours. In contrast, thanks to the advanced underground network, which covers the whole city, people can easily take the subway to the CRH terminal station and check in within less than an hour. Moreover, the CRH is very reliable, I mean, it’s punctual most of the time and rarely has malfunctions. Besides, the environment on the train is pleasing. There are snacks, beverages, and TV programs, not to mention the great view we’re gonna enjoy along the way. I believe my friend would find the CRH both convenient and pleasant.

Your city plans to build a factory which may provide job opportunities. However, it would lead to some pollution. Do you support this decision?

I don’t think it’s a good idea to establish a factory which involves much pollution despite the fact that it may provide some job opportunities. It’s just not worth it to develop the economy at the expense of environment. Once the environment has been damaged, it’s difficult to be restored to the previous condition and even if it’s possible, the whole project usually ends up costing us much more money than increased jobs can offer. For example, some factories emit harmful or even toxic gas, which is the main cause of air pollution. Although the government has been addressing this problem for decades, it still remains one of the most severe environmental problems in my country. What’s more, there are many other ways to increase employment, such as developing the tourist industry or other service sections in our economy. Besides, building factories is actually OK as long as it doesn’t exert any negative influence on our environment.
