Compared with taking exams at school, what are the advantages or disadvantages of having exams at home?

Well, generally speaking, I don’t like taking exams at home since there may be too many distractions. To be frank, I’m not that self-motivated. It seems that the cell phone is constantly calling out to me and I simply want to relax, playing video games, browsing websites, or texting friends. In contrast, classroom generates a more serious and academic atmosphere which pushes me to focus. Besides, some students may cheat on tests. Even though there’re strict regulations about exams, we’ve all heard about how some people manage to bend or even break the rules in the test center. What if they’re left alone at home with no one supervising them? They may find it more difficult to resist the temptation to check the references or ask others for help during the exam.

In a group discussion, some people like speaking out their opinions first, while others prefer to listen to others’ ideas before sharing their own. Which one do you prefer and why?

I usually listen to others’ views before speaking out my mind during a discussion. It’s not that I’m selfish and don’t like sharing, it’s just I really enjoy listening to others talk. Whatever the topics are, others’ opinions often surprise me, I mean, it’s quite fun to realize that people approach the same issue from so many perspectives. They share their first-hand experience or stories they’ve heard about, and negotiate or debate with each other. I find such conversation pretty engaging and there’s no need to judge who’s right or wrong. Yet I still want to make my own contribution, so I’d like to share my views at a later stage. Sometimes I summarize what I’ve heard in a logical manner first and then add my point of view, which may provoke further discussion. In fact, I think it doesn’t matter who speaks first as long as there are people exchanging ideas.
