Describe the advantage and disadvantage of being active on social website.

Social websites offer a great platform where people could get actively involved in discussion. In real life, some people’s voice may be ignored; for example, teenagers are usually labeled as “childish” or “impulsive”, and people of lower class are often elbowed out due to their social status. Yet on internet, people get almost equal chances to express ideas toward various issues and be heard by the rest of netizens. However, this may also lead to problems. For example, some people may feel that they don’t need to take responsibility for their words and therefore would make harsh and unfair criticism without considering whether such a behavior may hurt others. In fact, people’s lives could be ruined because of cyber-bullying. I think social website is like a two-edged sword and we need to use it wisely in order to make our life enjoyable.

Some people would try to get job opportunity by using others’ influence. What do you think about this?

Generally speaking, I think it’s OK to get job opportunities by taking advantage of others’ influence, as long as they do this in a proper manner. I mean, certainly we should not pull some strings while competing with other job candidates since everyone deserves a fair chance, but it doesn’t mean that we are totally on our own. When it comes to career development, social connection is of great importance. People who are good at socializing and demonstrating their strengths can build up wide networks, which could be pretty helpful sometimes; for example, a short recommendation letter from people of certain background may be far more effective than thousands of words said by ourselves. No one would regard this unfair since the ability to get such a letter also reflects strong social skills or professional performance.
