One of your classmates plans to take some courses during the vocation in order to graduate earlier. Describe the advantage and disadvantage of this decision.

I think attending courses during the vocation does bring certain benefits since at least he won’t goof around. I mean, during regular school terms, students usually desire a long vocation to relax and unwind. Yet once the holiday finally comes, people often get bored after one week or so, simply because they don’t know how to kill time. If we take come courses, we may earn some credits, which may enable us to graduate earlier; at the same time, we’ll always have something to do, such as reading or working on assignments. Such activities make the vocation fulfilled and meaningful. However, the course may get in the way of our holiday. What if it turns out to be difficult and we need to put much effort on it? In this case, the so-called vocation won’t be relaxing at all and we may end up feeling exhausted and stressed out.

Some universities allow people in the local community to take courses for free but do not offer credits or feedback for assignments. What do you think about this?

Generally speaking, I think it’s a good idea for the university to offer free courses to the local people even though it doesn’t provide credits or feedbacks. Some people don’t really care about the certificate or transcript; instead, they simply want to enjoy the campus environment. My Aunt attends some courses in a college after retirement. She just sits in the back of the classroom and listening to professors lecturing. Although the teachers barely noticed her, she still feels good since such experience brings her back to the time when she was a bright young person and full of expectations for the future. Besides, she’s learned a lot from professors and students. They exchange ideas and debate in class, and the various views also encourage my aunt to think.
