Instead of printing books in paper version, the university decides to release only online version of textbooks. Discuss at least an advantage and disadvantage of this change.

I think it may help students save money if the university uses online textbooks to replace the printed version. Paper books aren’t cheap, especially those published abroad. It’s true that there’re some used ones in campus bookstores; however, they often sell out quickly and most students end up paying hundreds of bucks on them each semester. In contrast, once the school sends the e-version to students, they could download them onto such electronic device as Kindle, which requires just a one-time cost provided that students won’t frequently replace theirs with the latest version. On the other hand, however, it’s not that convenient to take notes with the e-book. Despite of certain fancy features, some students may prefer the old-fashioned way of studying like taking notes on the margin, and highlighting key information on the book.

Some professors prefer to answer students’ questions at the end of the lecture, and others stop at different points to answer students’ questions. Which style do you think is better for learning?

From my perspective, professors may answer students’ questions once they’re raised in class since this could enable students to clarify their confusion in time so as to follow the professor through the course. When questions emerge, students usually want to address them as soon as possible since if they wait any longer, the delay may lead to further questions. For example, if they don’t understand certain term in the first place, they would feel baffled when the professor later uses it to illustrate other concepts. As a result, questions pile up and students end up learning nothing. Moreover, some people may argue that if the professor keeps stopping to answer questions, the whole class may be constantly interrupted. However, an experienced teacher would know how to bring the class back to track once they’ve addressed those issues.
