Some universities require freshmen to take time-management courses. What are the advantage and disadvantage of such courses?

I think the time-management course would benefit the freshmen to some degree. For instance, first-year students usually have a tight schedule. They have to adapt to the campus life, including getting familiar with their surroundings, taking care of themselves while living away from parents, handling school assignments, and so on. Without proper help, they may have a hard time dealing with such things on their own. The time-management course may teach them how to make a balance among all these tasks. However, this requirement comes with some drawbacks. For one thing, the effectiveness of such a course is open to question. After all, students have different stuff to cope with and their time-management skills may vary a lot. A course which is offered to all freshmen may not be able to give much specific information. Instead, the school may assign an advisor to each student to help him/her get through the first year.

I’d like to work at home which allows me to have my own timetable. I’m pretty well-organized and won’t procrastinate, I mean, even with my hands full, I won’t panic; instead, I would make a clear agenda and sort out the priorities so as to make sure that each task would be completed in time. At the same time, flexible working hours provide more freedom. For example, I may take a day off and go for a trip on a whim or sometimes I feel more efficient working late at night rather than during the day. A regular schedule may lead to poor performance on the job. Moreover, I feel more at ease at home and it’s usually more convenient. I could avoid the heavy traffic during rush hours and there’s no need to behave myself as I’d have to in the office. As a result, more attention could be paid to the work itself.
