研究方向

We are looking for a creative and highly motivated research student willing to work as part of a team to support our theme on “Policy, Society and Finance”. Beyond the technological and systemic levels, there are complex non-technical barriers around business motivations, finance gaps, public awareness and policy incentives to be solved. Therefore, we must develop novel forward-looking methodologies to understand the opportunities, challenges, and deliver effective real-world solutions. First, we aim to explore purpose-driven business models that are socially, economically, and politically appropriate for the deployment of the circular chemical economy for multi-sector organisations of various sizes. 

Second, it is crucial to understand climate investment and finance development in the UK and globally and optimise climate investment policy for low-carbon project development. Furthermore, it is crucial to understand social dynamics to enable us to effectively design pathways for public acceptance of the new circular economy. We also need to pinpoint areas requiring government interventions to stimulate the development of, and investment in, the circular chemical sector.

For your research proposal, you can either focus on a specific area e.g., sustainable finance; business models; policy; or more than one related area.

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum classification of 2:1. A Master’s degree in a relevant area is desirable. For the purposes of this project, relevant fields include Finance, Business Analytics or a similar discipline.

Particular consideration will be given to candidates with excellent economics, analytical and communication skills. Programming experience in Matlab, R and Stata are also desirable. 

Experience in research-related stakeholder engagement and development, especially in the chemical sector, energy or the circular economy would be advantageous. Professional experience of energy policy and strategy, and demonstrable analytical writing experience would also be advantageous.
