Richard Kayne & Ad Neeleman | Linearisation

Linguistics Flash-Mobs
Gianollo, A. Giorgi, C. Guardiano, M. T. Guasti, M. R. Manzini, E. Pagliarini, E. Sanfelici, A. Tomaselli协办。
"Linguistics Flash - Mobs" is a series of video conferences thought to be a way to keep the linguistic community connected during this troublesome period. In each conference, two seminal scholars will face long-standing theoretical issues making use of different frameworks: fun is guaranteed with these "sword fights"!
This project has been thought and organised by Cecilia Poletto, with the help of C. Gianollo, A. Giorgi, C. Guardiano, M. T. Guasti, M. R. Manzini, E. Pagliarini, E. Sanfelici, A. Tomaselli.

Introduction to the key participants
Richard Kayne
Richard Kayne(Richard Stanley Kayne)
Richard Kayne (Richard Stanley Kayne) is Professor of Linguistics in the Linguistics Department at New York University. He studied linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving his Ph.D. in 1969. He has made prominent contributions to the study of the syntax of English and the Romance languages within the framework of transformational grammar. His theory of Antisymmetry has become part of the canon of the Minimalist syntax literature.
Ad Neeleman
Ad Neeleman (Adriaan Dirk Neeleman),
Ad Neeleman (Adriaan Dirk Neeleman) is a Dutch linguist based in the UK. He is Professor of Linguistics at University College London. He completed his PhD at the University of Utrecht in 1994. His research focusses on syntax, semantics and phonology, and particularly on the interfaces between them. His work is part of the tradition of generative grammar, but differs in several important respects from the Minimalist Program of Noam Chomsky. Neeleman has also made use of Optimality Theory, another generativist approach.
Michelle Sheehan
Michelle Sheehan,Professor of Linguistics at Anglia Ruskin University. Michelle has been at ARU since August 2015, being promoted to Professor in 2020. She is interested in the structure of language (syntax), how languages vary/change and how we can model this variation (typology, comparative syntax), with a particular interest in languages descended from Latin (Romance languages). Michelle is currently collaborating with academics in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Brazil on issues related to argument structure (causative constructions), heritage languages, case and agreement (experimental and theoretical perspectives) and unexpressed arguments (Control).
03
Linearisation
Is precedence a relation defined in core syntax or only at the externalization interface?
Is there an underlying universal head initial order?
Given your model, how is a phenomenon like extraposition analysed?
