项目思考

Reflection



重庆之眼项目作为事务所首个建成的TOD类型项目,为我们提供了一次深入思考TOD对于城市应该扮演的角色,以及我们如何以创造性的景观策略加以应对的机会。


As the first built transit-oriented development (TOD) project by Atelier Scale, the Eye of Chongqing provides us with an opportunity to delve deeply into the role TOD could play for a city and the kind of creative landscape strategies that can be adopted in response.

重庆西站作为中国西南地区最大的高铁站,已于2018年投入运行,联通着从重庆通向西部的四条高铁线路。如此优越的交通条件为该片区发展提供了良好先机,但其作为城市TOD 的综合属性并未完全施展。目前已经开放的公共区域拥有快速导流的交通系统,但同时也面临着国内大多数高铁站普遍存在的窘境:拥有超大的疏散广场而无避暑的林下空间、地域特征不够明显的城市形象。这些缺乏特色的高铁枢纽形象势必影响其激发城市片区的活力。


Chongqingxi Railway Station, the largest high-speed railway station in southwest China, is an intersection where four high-speed railways stretch from Chongqing to China’s western cities. Its outstanding strategic location for transportation are bound to offer sound opportunities of regional development. In spite of its commission in 2019, Chongqingxi Railway Station has not yet fleshed out its complex properties as an urban TOD. Its public place has a circulation system with rapid guidance for traffic. However, its dilemma is similar to majority of its peers in China: it is an urban image comprising a super-large evacuation square without tree shadows to avoid sunstroke and without sufficient distinct local characters. Without unique image, the high-speed railway hub's dynamism will go unnoticed in the surrounding urban areas.

我们希望既能保持西站作为城市交通枢纽的重要特征,也希望带着对国内现有交通枢纽存在的普遍问题的反思,将景观作为公共空间的组织者,去寻找为旅客、办公人群以及周边居民提供能和谐共存的公共景观系统的方法,以激发TOD最大程度上助力城市活力的潜能。


We would like to not only preserve the important features of Chongqingxi Railway Station as an urban transit hub, but also reflect on prevalent issues challenging domestic transit hubs. Taking the landscape as an organizer of public space, we plan to seek an approach to provide travelers, office employees, and surrounding residents with a public landscape system of harmonious coexistence, so as to unleash the potential of TOD to maximize its support for urban dynamism.

时光绽放

Unfolding the Time



重庆之眼TOD项目的规划,以重庆西站站前广场为核心,向南北两侧依次展开,集办公、商业、公寓、酒店、公园等多重业态于一体的城市形态,欲打造一个完整的城市生活系统,激发项目最大潜能。背靠中梁山山脚的重庆西站以高效运输的方式将旅客送达或送离,而未来酒店、办公、公寓、商业等丰富业态的进驻,将会吸引更多周边城市居民的到来。我们认为,对于需要高效出行的旅客以及休闲生活的居民而言,他们对公共空间有着“高效到达”与“慢行生活”两大需求,这种对时间快慢的不同感知成为了景观设计的启发点。我们希望能从时间维度出发,尝试打破国内高铁站以“快”为普遍特征的状态,营造一个“快慢共存”的时光绽放枢纽。

Eye of Chongqing, a TOD project, takes the front plaza of Chongqingxi Railway Station as the core and unfolds at the north and south flanks, creating a complete system for urban life and unlocking its utmost potential by combining office buildings, commercial centers, apartments, hotels, and parks into an urban form. With Zhongliang Mountain at its back, the Station welcomes and sees off travelers with highly efficient transit services; it will attract more people from surrounding cities to reside here when its formats are enriched by hotels, office buildings, apartments, and commercial centers. We believe that travelers in need of highly efficient transit services and residents wanting leisure in life expect the public place to be “accessible with high efficiency” but “slow to savor the taste of life” at the same time. The sense of different time speeds is where the landscape design comes from. We hope to take time as one dimension to try to break the generally accepted pattern of “getting faster” for high-speed railway stations in China and to create a hub for time to unfold by “combining fast and slow speeds” together.

时光生律——清晰律动的动线设计

Melodic Time: Dynamic Design with Distinct Rhythms


作为以高效运输为主导的交通枢纽,其潜在的动线我们将予以强化并明确,与此同时,缺失的慢行动线也需融入其中,使到访者进入场地后,随着动线的快慢变换形成律动有致的行动体验。

The hidden dynamics will be clarified and enhanced, while missing slow movement will be brought in and integrated into this highly efficient transit hub. When visitors enter the venue, they would experience moving along with changes in speed of dynamism.

站前广场位于场地核心,其连接了包含地铁、公交车站、高铁、地下车库等多种交通方式的地面出入口,承载着疏散客流的重要作用。我们将以站前广场为中心,形成中间快,两侧慢的动线策略,打造更为明晰的动线脉络。在站前广场,东西方向我们将预留120M(根据政府反恐疏散要求)的城市通廊为旅客提供快速到达高铁入口的步行条件;南北方向我们也将预留20M宽度(根据政府安全要求)的商业通廊,为到访者提供快速到达南北商业、办公的步行条件;连接城市通廊与商业通廊轴线的其余次级动线我们将以绿岛的形式进行强化引导,将各个出入口人流引导至高铁入口及南北商业;动线两侧的植物也以孤植与列植的形态布置,以加强视线和动线方向引导。南北地块与站前广场交接区域将作为快慢律动的缓冲区域,以小广场的形式进行分流,逐步进入南北缓行区。 

Located at the center, the front plaza that has service entrances into subway, bus stations, high-speed railway, and underground parking lot plays an important role in dispersing passengers. Taking the front plaza as the center, we have a vitalized strategy of sandwiching a fast movement lane with two slow-movement lines to create a clearer circulation. An urban corridor of 120m is reserved at both the eastern and western sides of the front plaza according to anti-terrorism requirements of the municipal government for travelers to rapidly walk to the station entrance; visitors can quickly reach commercial and office buildings in the north and south on foot through the 20m-wide commercial corridor based on the requirements of the municipal government. The rest of the secondary axis connecting the urban corridor and commercial corridor will have its guidance enhanced in the form of green islands so that the traffic to entrances and from exits will be oriented to the Station or commercial centers in the south and north. Plants on both sides of the axis shall be placed either individually or in line so as to better concentrate travelers’ vision and regulate the movement accordingly. The intersection at the south-north block and front plaza will also be a buffer zone to divide traffic in the form of small squares so that travelers can walk into the slow-movement area to the south and north.

南北地块集办公、商业、酒店、公寓等业态为一体,南北方向的20M宽度的商业通廊是接连站前广场与地下人流进入的主要通行廊道。除此之外,我们通过7M,5M,3M等不同尺度路径,引导到访者能放慢脚步,逐步去寻找属于自己的生活方式。极具韵律感的直线铺装线条作为方向性的指引,通过深浅色彩的区分暗示快速通行路径与闲暇停留场所。路径两侧也多以舒朗细腻的特色乔木为主导,形成秋叶林、樱花林、绿荫通廊等沉浸式步行体验。

The north-south block integrates offices, commercial centers, hotels, and apartments; the 20m-wide commercial corridor connects the front plaza and the main path through which travelers enter the site from underground. In addition, we plan to set paths of different widths of 7m, 5m, or 3m to slow down travelers’ footsteps, so that they can find their own way of life. The metrical and straight paving lines are oriental guidance whose sectors in different shades of color imply either rapid paths or places for leisure and resting. Arbors on both sides are comfortable and exquisite, creating an immersive pedestrian experience through the surrounding autumn leaves, cherry trees, and shaded corridors.

时光生悦——轻松愉悦的生活场景

Pleasant Time: Lively Scenario of a Pleasant Life 


随着办公,公寓,酒店,商业等多样业态的进驻,高铁枢纽高效运输的单一功能变得更加丰富,使其成为业态综合的城市TOD形态。景观将根据建筑布局及业态打造与其契合的生活场景,为旅客带来轻松快行的候车空间,为在此停留的慢行访者带来互动活泼的商业生活、精致舒适的办公环境以及品质共享的公寓(酒店)体验。

As offices, apartments, hotels, and commercial centers among various formats are to be stationed, the transit hub will be diversified from its originally planned function and become a complex of urban TOD. Its landscape will be created to fit in daily life with the help of building layout and formats, creating a pleasant and lively waiting space for travelers, an interactive and animated commercial experience, an exquisite and comfortable working environment, and a unique stay in apartment (hotel) for visitors in a slow movement.

我们将以站前广场为中心,向南北两侧扩散,营造“快”“慢”两种使用场景。景观将结合绿岛设置雕塑型坐凳以及休闲口袋,以便候车旅客进行短暂休息与停留,喷雾降温设备、候车信息屏等便民措施的置入,也为短暂驻留的旅客提供更舒适便利的候车环境。南北两区的商业将结合轻盈活泼的互动水景、轻松舒适的户外家具以及清爽舒朗的林荫空间创造轻松活泼的慢行商业场景,让匆忙的旅人稍作停留,慢享纷扰之外的下午茶时光。以“自然置石”与“落樱流水”为主题的精品办公庭院,为上班一族提供了充分的身份认同感和释放工作压力,畅享绿荫下的轻松惬意的慢行办公场景。公寓塔楼则结合现状高差打造阶梯式花园和酒店式入口,打造更优雅的品质慢行公寓(酒店)场景,为公寓人群营造更舒适的归家感受。


The north and south flanks spread out from the front plaza at the center to create “fast” and “slow” scenarios. In the landscape, there are benches shaped in sculptures and leisure pockets set in combination with green islands for the travelers’ resting convenience. Spraying and cooling facilities and information display screen for the waiting room among other efficient services form a comfortable and well-suited waiting environment for travelers during a short stay. Commercial centers in north and south will be decorated with lively and interactive waterscapes, cozy and comfortable outdoor furniture, and fresh and relaxing spaces in forest shadows to produce a delighted commercial scenario of slow movement, so that busy travelers can take a relief and enjoy an afternoon tea out of a tight schedule. Office courtyards with natural stone settings and cherry trees falling into running water establish the identity and lift working pressure off white-collars who can enjoy a relaxing and slow working environment in tree shadows. Tower apartment buildings filled with terrace gardens with elevation differences and hotel-style entrances generate an elegant scenario of quality and slow movement and a feeling of coming home for those living inside.

时光生花——山茶花形的艺术姿态

Blossoming Time: Artistic Form of Camellia


高铁站是一座城市形象展示的重要窗口,而国内各个城市的高铁站形象同质化现象非常严重,我们应当寻找到独属于重庆西站的城市符号,成为能够真正展示重庆风貌的特色窗口。

It is necessary to find a special urban symbol uniquely belonging to Chongqingxi Railway Station to differentiate it from its peers across the nation, as almost all of them have a homogeneous appearance. Stations of this kind are an important window to display a city, and a unique symbol will become a characteristic showcase for the true style of Chongqing.

山茶花作为重庆市市花,是认同感很强的城市文化符号,我们以山茶花绽放时的姿态为灵感,将其转译为景观设计语言。站前广场以城市轴线为中心,两朵美丽的茶花向两侧同时绽放,形成大开大合的绿岛和铺装形态,引导广场人群快速流动。而当山茶花来到南北区较小尺度空间,其“花朵”形态则解构成为“花瓣”,演变成灵动细腻的花瓣形态种植绿岛,铺装及家具,引导到访人群放慢脚步驻足乐享。大尺度绽放的山茶花与小尺度飘散的花瓣将共同谱写重庆西站城市形象,打造独属于重庆西站的城市符号。


Camellia, representing Chongqing, is an urban cultural symbol with a strong sense of identity. Inspired by the blooming camellia, we translate it into a language applied in landscape design. Along the central axis for the city, two beautiful camellias are fully blossoming on two sides of the front plaza, composed of green islands and paving to guide traffic rapidly. When camellias meet narrow spaces at the northern and southern ends, flowers are decomposed into refined and flexible petals composed of green islands, paving, and furniture to slow down paces of visitors for pleasure. Camellias in their fullness, together with small and dispersed petals, shape the image of the station and create a unique urban symbol.

景观先行

The Pilot Area



先行区作为“重庆之眼”项目的首要开放区域,我们希望能将“快慢共存”的景观策略予以充分体现。通过清晰明了的动线规划打造“时光生律”的人车流线系统;通过对不同空间属性的梳理,营造“时光生悦”的生活场景;通过“时光生花”的演绎,形成大开大合与精致细腻并存的设计语言,创造独属于场地的艺术形态。一系列对“快慢”节奏的把控,让到访者更深切感知时间“快慢”体验。

As the first area accessible to the public in the project of the Eye of Chongqing, the pilot area will have its landscape presented in the strategy of “slowness and fastness”, in which clear dynamic lines draw a traffic system that is singing the lyric of the time; spaces of different properties are combined to form a pleasant life scenario; blossoming time full of bold and refined design languages creates a special artistic form for the site. A series of measures to flow with the rhythm of “slowness and fastness” help visitors deeply experience time, either fleeting or meandering.

时光广场

Time Plaza


时光广场将延续站前广场山茶花设计语言,奠定场地与站前广场形式统一的基本格调。入口处延绵起伏的“速影屏风”引导场地外环境的车流和人流快速辨识场地身份,进入场地内部。“时光广场”作为先行区的交通枢纽,以整圆的形体结合细腻精致的铺装清晰分割人行与车行动线,身姿挺拔的榉树廊道为人流快速进入景观核心区提供了明晰的方向引导,也为驻留闲坐的人们提供了舒适的林下空间。场地中央的“时光水景”不仅是交通导流岛,也是重要的艺术空间。由阴刻工艺表现八条路线经过的重要城市剪影,展示了先行区与重庆西站铁路文化的连接。水盘之上的弧形石雕水带则是时间齿轮的象征,随着时控喷泉的启动,访客亦放慢脚步,轻轻触碰城市剪影,细细品味时间齿轮,慢慢感受场地带来的艺术气息。


Time Plaza borrows the design language of the front plaza, as the former’s foundation is in the same style as the format of the latter. Rolling Silhouette Screens at the entrance guide traffics of vehicles and people to rapidly identify the place and enter the inner part. As a transit hub in pilot area, Time Plaza is roundly shaped and it has exquisitely paved lines to separate people and vehicle. The Time Plaza is guarded by two lines of tall zelkova trees, showing direction clearly for rapid movement into the core of the landscape. A space under canopy is also created for idling ones to sit down and walk around. Waterscape in Fleeting at the core of the landscape is not only a transit guidance island but also an important artistic space whose intaglio craftsmanship of eight paths stretches through the city, revealing a cultural connection between the pilot area and the Station. The curved stone carving in water resembles the gear of time. As the fountain begins to spring, visitors’ steps slow down and visitors can touch the silhouette of the city lightly. A taste of how time revolves brings a smell of art for the site.

花林广场

Plaza of Flowers and Forests


邻近办公裙楼的花林广场是一处办公人群能快速到达的林下休闲场所。由精致细腻的山茶花瓣形态演化成花瓣座椅,座椅靠背的弧线细节描绘及花形穿孔钢板进一步强化了场地特色。“花林广场”内群植的吉野樱不仅带来了春日里的浪漫,同时强化了场地的空间结构,形成了舒适轻松的林下空间。而樱花林下的花瓣座椅、色彩丰郁的花境为这里更是增加了一份温柔。手执一杯咖啡,沉浸浪漫的花境,感知时间的缓慢流动,能够让在这里办公的人群忘却高效工作带来的疲惫,享受一份难得的自然放松。 


Plaza of Flowers and Forests close to office buildings is for white collars to enjoy leisure in shadows via the shortest route. Delicate camellia petals are the shape of seats, whose cambered backrest and flower-shaped punched steel plate further add to the features of the site. Yoshino Cherry planted in groups not only immerses the place in spring romance, but also builds up a spatial structure to form a comfortable space under canopy. It becomes even more gentle with petal-shaped seats in cherry trees and a colorful garden. Sitting inside flowers with a cup of coffee to feel the slow move of time can be people’s escape from a tiring day or fatigue and freedom to a status of valuable ease.

流水花园

Garden of Flowing Water


静谧的“流水花园”是一处情感沉浸之所,两片花瓣交叠而成的镜面水景与花境包裹着舒适的休闲活动平台,创造了不被打扰的社交空间。涓涓叠水随着波浪石材肌理顺流而下,软质沙发临水放置,伴随着日出日落,乌桕下的阴影画卷以不同的方向覆盖于坐区之上。不远处的重庆西站与“流水花园”在视线上相互照应,匆忙来过的旅人与友人畅聊道别过后,便可从容前往候车大厅,满心期待地奔赴于下一站。

The tranquil Garden of Flowing Water is a place to steep emotions thoroughly; thanks to the isolated social space on a leisure platform created by waterscape on mirror surface, composed of two overlapping petals accompanied with surrounding flowers. Gurgling brook flows along stone texture; soft sofas are placed beside the water; sunrise and sunset cast moving shadows through Sapium Sebiferum onto the seat area, like a scroll being rolled out. In the visual echoing of the Station and the Garden of Flowing Water, travelers on a mission bid farewell to friends and walk into the waiting room with ease in their steps, longing for the next destination.
