8 Ideas for a Self-Date
When was the last time you dated yourself?
Time spent alone is so vital to really knowing yourself on a deeper level and truly understanding what gets you buzzing. Naturally knowing yourself better helps you become less judgmental, and you are also empowered by your own strengths, which enables you to assess personalities, goals and values of partners that are in alignment with your own.
Taking the time to nurture yourself with all the love and self-care you deserve can do wonders for your mental state and really boost your self-confidence. At first the idea of a self-date may seem daunting, but don’t fear.
Here is a list of my personal favorite self-date ideas to consider.
1. Coffee Shops
Head over to your local café. This is a great space to grab a coffee, reflect and journal, or marvel at the scenery. There is also plenty of people watching opportunities!
2. Parks + Nature
If the sun is out, make your way over to your nearest park. Follow the path, breathe in the fresh air, and take in the scenery. Perhaps pack in a blanket and a good book!
3. Restaurants
Although the idea of a solo restaurant date may seem daunting at first, it only takes the first self-date to know that it is the most liberating experience. Try somewhere new and spend your night mindfully observing whilst consciously dining.
4. Comedy Nights
Who doesn’t love some witty humor and a good belly laugh? Head over to your local comedy event, grab a drink, and be entertained.
5. Movie/Live Performances
This time there’s no compromising: you’re in charge! Just let your mood dictate the genre. Bring along your favorite snacks and you're good to go.
6. Staycations
You don’t even have to leave town! Scout out a boutique hotel near you, book yourself in for a night or two, and indulge in some simple hotel luxuries (including those soft perfumed scented towels) and soak in a bath! YES, A BATH! The good old days!
7. Spas
Head over to a spa for some real pampering! Treat your tense muscles to essential oil massages and peaceful relaxation.
8. Cook Some of Your Favorite Dishes
Set aside some time to experiment in the kitchen. Try out that delicious recipe your friend made a while back and make enough for 2! (Heck even 3! Who doesn’t enjoy snacking on leftovers during the week?)
Take Yourself On A Date
Dating yourself gets you out of your comfort zone and encourages you to take chances, break old barriers, and center yourself. You will discover that self-love and happiness stem from within. This will in turn empower you to feed from this source and not rely on future partners to fill in gaps.
Dating yourself gives you the opportunity to really connect with who you are on a deeper level, gaining insights into what you deem important. By being a whole person you can meet your counterpart on the same level. Make self- dates a regular thing and get comfortable with your own company!
