Matteo, founder of The Great Human Connection, shares more about the organization and their upcoming Christmas events.
Meet Matteo, Founder of Great Human Connection
I am Matthew Casto, but most people call me Matteo. I was born in the United States but married an Italian woman and spent twenty years of my life living in the Mediterranean raising a family, traveling abroad working, and exploring various cultural interests before moving to China. Professionally now I am Creative Theme Park Designer with a unique expertise in concrete sculpture.
What is The Great Human Connection?
The Great Human Connection is a volunteer social project that was birthed out of the idea to share interesting and motivation stories of people from around the globe.
It started out as a collective writing project and morphed into an online educational platform and social media outreach. Our goal is to create and nurture a vibrant community of passionate and thoughtful people from all paths of life, provide educational resources to sharpen self-awareness, and share personal stories that inspire, encourage, and support each other.
We equip people with online tools to discover and deepen meaningful connections with friends, family, and community. We ignite a lasting passion for individual and social change. Ultimately, we promote participation in community programs, charitable works, and artistic events.
What kind of events does The Great Human Connection have?
We host a weekly support group for men called The Modern Man. These groups are designed to give men a safe place to communicate their thoughts and feelings about various subject, including mental health, relationships, dating, and parenting.
Also, we offer other community charity events and support local social initiatives. We have a number of partners around China that we assist to raise money and volunteers. The next upcoming event is called Toys of Tots, where we are gathering Christmas toys for underserviced children. That event will be followed by a black tie Christmas Party.

What do you have in store for the GHC community?
The community is thriving and is growing in Beijing. There is a unique space in the social landscape for an organization who is delivering positive and motivational content. 2020 has been a difficult year for most everyone and everyone is open to deeper connections with friends and family. People are looking for meaning in their lives.
One important aspect of GHC is collaboration. We want to be part of a global movement that improves the lives of people and raise social awareness. We can’t do that alone and we don’t want to act in solidarity. We believe in community development!
2021 will be an exciting year for GHC. We are planning several large activities in collaboration with other organizations such as CandleX, Beijing Mindfulness Center, and DNC.
We plan to launch an educational series on social enterprises and corporate responsibility. Our hope is to support the community by connecting the businesses of Beijing to initiatives that most represent their long-term vision. We believe that social responsibility is smart business.
