Launch in Singapore: Cross-border Innovation Base

XNode, together with Shanghai Zhangjiang Science & Technology Venture Capital, announced the launch of the Singapore Innovation Base today at SFF x SWITCH 2019 in Singapore. On the same day, XNode and RISE signed a MOU on cooperatively promoting innovation development in Southeast Asia. The launch and signing ceremony was witnessed by Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Intellectual Property Intermediary, the organizers of the Singapore FinTech Festival x Singapore Week of Innovation and TeCHnology (SFF x SWITCH) .

XNode and Zhangjiang Science & Technology Venture Capital launched the Singapore Innovation Base

The significance of launching the Singapore Innovation Base lies in opening up the international channel of market, technology and talents. For Zhangjiang's local enterprises, internationalization is a must, and Singapore is a good bridgehead to support the start of Southeast Asia business. Singapore's market is mature and can be well tested for product optimization. Moreover, Singapore's financial advantages can help local Chinese enterprises realize rapid expansion in the whole Southeast Asia. In addition, local enterprises and universities in Singapore are as strong in scientific research and development as those in developed countries in Europe and the US, ranked second in the world in talent competitiveness, being an excellent spot to introduce and promote advanced scientific and technological innovation and gather outstanding talents. In 2016, XNode became a strategic partner of Zhangjiang Science & Technology Venture Capital, establishing X·CIP (The Corporate Innovation Platform), and completed several cooperation and innovation projects between corporations and local enterprises in Zhangjiang. Now with the establishment of Singapore Innovation Base, it will be possible to try the China - Singapore - International cross-border innovation model.

At the launching ceremony, Ms. Chen Weiwei, General Manager of Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co.,Ltd., made a speech,

As an acceleration partner of Zhangjiang Group in corporate innovation and internationalization for many years, XNode will make full use of its experience in providing highly international entrepreneurship and innovation community services for nearly 300 entrepreneurs in over 28 countries and regions, and jointly promote the development of overseas bases.”

Wei Zhou, founder and CEO of XNode, believes that it is of great significance to launch the Singapore Innovation Base. It opens up a gate for excellent tech innovators in China to expand into Southeast Asia and other international markets. 

Innovation links between China and Singapore

China is actively promoting innovation cooperation with countries around the world, and Singapore is a center of financial and scientific innovation among Southeast Asia. On May 24th this year, Heng Swee Keat, Co-Chairmen, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, and Ying Yong, Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government addressed the meeting and jointly attended the first meeting of Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council (SSCCC). At the meeting, Shanghai and Singapore also held a memorandum of cooperation signing ceremony, and two governments, arbitration institutions, financial institutions and enterprises respectively signed five memorandum of cooperation. XNode and Enterprise Singapore signed a MOU on promoting entrepreneurial innovation ecosystem interaction between Singapore and China. Both sides reached consensus on organizing and establishing a new innovative base in China, in order to help Singapore enterprises (including start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises) in China connected to local business and innovation ecosystems by offering entrance to Chinese market, the docking of human resources, investment institutions, customer resources and potential cooperation opportunities.

May 25th, SSCCC Co-chairman, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr Heng Swee Keat visits XNode Zhangjiang Space and Zhangjiang Venture Studio.

October 29th, Mr. Peter Ong, Chairman of Enterprise Singapore, visited XNode JingAn space. Meanwhile the first batch of Singapore-China innovation acceleration programme was officially launched, with eight Singapore startups settled in XNode JingAn space for their Launch China acceleration. These eight enterprises engaged in diversified industries such as AI, FinTech, retail, real estate technology, medical technology and other fields. On November 15th, they will publicly demonstrate their innovative products and services to major Chinese investors and enterprises on the Demo Day of GIA Acceleration Programme!

During recent years, the trend of innovation in Southeast Asia becomes more and more active. Having enjoyed a rapid improvement powered by manufacturing foundry stimulating local infrastructure industry, to break through the limits of independent innovation of science and technology also begins to be seen as a main development goal among Southeast Asia. Investment institutions, which represent the backbone of VC circle, especially Chinese ones, have invested more resources to Southeast Asia, making technology start-ups there energetic and active just like those in Europe, the US and China. On the basis of the MOU signed this time, XNode and RISE will achieve mutual resource connectivity, creating a win-win situation for stakeholders and participants in the innovation ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
