个人简介

Andy Fabian (University of Cambridge) is one ofthe world's pre-eminent X-ray astronomers, with a wide range of ingenious andhighly original papers. He has made an exceptional contribution to thedevelopment of astrophysics over the past 40 years, through ground-breakingcontributions to the study of galactic and extra-galactic sources ofhigh-energy radiation. His theoretical and observational investigations of theradiation from matter under extreme conditions near black holes, including theprediction and detection of relativistically broadened spectral emission linesfrom the near vicinity of a massive black hole, provided key evidence for theexistence and properties of black holes. His work has helped to turn the studyof the strong gravity region around black holes into an observational science.He has highlighted problems posed by gas in the cores of clusters of galaxies,elucidating the cooling and heating balance.
