报告人介绍


Dr. Witold Nazarewicz 


Dr. Witold Nazarewicz is both a John A. Hannah distinguished professor of physics at Michigan State University, and a professor of physics at Warsaw University, Poland. He is also a Corporaste Fellow at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Physics Division. During 1999-2012 he served as the Scientific Director of the ORNL Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility. He has held several visiting positions, including professorships at Lund University, University of Cologne, Kyoto University, University of Liverpool, University of the West of Scotland, and Peking University. Dr. Nazarewicz is an expert and pioneer in many fields, including nuclear structure, quantum many-body problem, and physics of open systems. Dr. Nazarewicz is the author of nine review papers and more than 420 refereed publications in scientific journals, with more than 28,000 citations and h-index of 89 (Web of Science) and 103 (Google Scholar).


报告简介


To an increasing extent, theoretical nuclear physics involves statistical inference on computationally-demanding theoretical models that often combine heterogeneous datasets. In this presentation, I will present a brief summary of diverse machine learning applications to low-energy nuclear theory. In particular, I will discuss how machine learning tools can improve the predictive power of nuclear theory when extrapolating towards more and more unstable nuclei.
