Festival of Urban Regeneration | T-Factor Roadshow
At the end of November, we are hosting a public research activity called “Urban Regeneration Festival”, in the framework of an international research project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technolog, which focuses on Meanwhile Spaces and Temporary Uses across Europe and Asia to create Ecological and Inclusive Cities.
Different representatives from Europe, including projects leader, Professors, government, are coming to Shanghai, to share the perspectives and results during the T-Factor project.
Festival Background
The process of urban regeneration includes the hardware dimension of the city, composed of buildings and infrastructures, construction and investment, as well as the software dimension of the cities, including citizens and communities, culture, history, green spaces, and all the activities around them.
How do software and hardware interact in the city-making process?
Thanks to the research support of the Ministry of Science and Technology in China (MOST) and the European Research Funds for International Collaboration (Horizon2020), we launched the T-Factor project (https://www.t-factor.eu/) to study early-stage and advanced regeneration projects in different Chinese and European cities and to unlock the transformative potential of participatory meanwhile uses in urban regeneration. Throughout international collaboration and participatory actions, T-Factor is building a portfolio of interventions and experiments that show new models and tools for urban regeneration towards ecological, sustainable, inclusive, thriving cities.
In Shanghai, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the academic role of Tongji University, College of Design and Innovation, the project has established two chinese pilots of the project with NICE 2035 and Xinhua Community Design Center.
