Fake Red Packets Continue to Scam WeChat Users! Be Careful

GiCexpat team GICexpat 2020-08-28

A scam link has been circulating around a WeChat group called “JingDong group pays out shopping allowance to society”, with ads proclaiming that their activity is certified by WeChat and that anyone can withdraw their so-called “allowance”.

It appears the scammers behind this scheme create a fake red packet with deceptive links and media, including voice messages, invitations and group prompts, to entice users to click and forward the envelope to others.

This type of content is easily and quickly shared among WeChat groups and within social networks without their feeling the slight suspicion over whether what they share is legitimate or not.

It’s always important to double-check and confirm that what you are using and sharing is not fraudulent, particularly in instances when you are asked to provide personal and payment information.

It’s only by working together and preventing others from falling into those types of traps that we can fight fake content and scams.
