One of the greatest perks of living in China is that you will find plenty of opportunities to make money.

If you’re still hungry for more prospects, here are a few ideas you might want to consider to increase your cash flow.

1. Digital Marketing

Marketing professionals, especially digital media specialists, are highly sought after in China today. Qualifications for entry-level positions include English fluency and stellar written communication skills.

Also, many Chinese companies need to target overseas markets. If you are a Native speaker with professional experience in marketing, then this job is great for you. You have the edge to navigate the community you are familiar with.

2. Translator

Translation companies are always on the lookout for translators in all languages (not just English).

They prefer native speakers who are also good at Chinese, so if you stay in China, this would be a great way to make some cash.

3.HR headhunting

Companies in China are trying to internationalize their work forces, a must for staying competitive with their increasingly global peers. What better place to start than HR?

Helping Chinese companies to find expat employees is easy especially if you have a lot of connections. Consequently, it can also get you a lot of commission.

4.  Blogging/ vlogging/ influencer on Chinese social media

Expats living in China aren’t short of insights, knowledge and experiences that others may care about. Creating your own channel and content around your China experiences may lead you to internet fame, which can lead to monetized views.

And if your Mandarin is solid enough, you might even want to consider creating an account on some of China’s most coveted social platforms like Douyin and Weibo. Chinese users enjoy learning about expats and their foreign cultures, so think of a few topics you could start creating content around, and the sky is the limit!

Once you’ve made a name for yourself, sponsorships and advertisements can transform your web content into a steady revenue stream.

Platforms like Douyin(Chinese tiktok)/weibo/ WeChat/bilibili, Little red book, etc can help you to earn money.

For instance,  posting ads on Douyin is free. However, if you have a large amount of followers, ad companies will naturally come to you when they see your videos. It is a good platform for individuals to build their reputation. For example, model agencies or business headhunters may come looking for you through Douyin after you have made a name for yourself.

Douyin is also a zero-cost platform for small businesses seller to promote their products. If you have enough followers on your Douyin account, advertising your online shop or start-up is very easy and effective.

5. Voice Recording

Recording monologues and dialogues for educational material can be more fun than it sounds.

You can approach English schools to see if they need any voice talent.

There is also limited work available at some studios for speakers of other languages. Similarly, Chinese companies need foreign-language speakers to create audio content with voice-overs, such as educational learning materials, and so on.

The per-hour pay is pretty good.

6. Home tutoring

In China, the mere ability to speak proper English can open up countless new opportunities. The great news is that you don’t necessarily have to teach a curriculum – many Chinese students are simply looking for opportunities to practice their conversational skills online.

Also, if you happen to know some Chinese friends whose kids need a teacher to learn a foreign language, then it might be worth considering private tutoring.

Besides English, there is also a market for foreign language tutoring too. Lessons will usually be conducted on a one-on-one basis, which has the potential for a higher salary.

7. Modeling

Chinese e-commerce is booming and needs a lot of models for product shoots. There are a whole host of opportunities for amateurs and most of it is fitting work for clothing companies.

There are also chances for runway and commercial work for experienced models. Infant and child models are also in high demand.

You can look for ads on local job sites like www.hiredchina.com.

8.  Import & export & seller

Living in China gives you the advantage of being physically close to Chinese suppliers, but you have to be willing to invest your time and efforts into growing it.

As you know, many of today’s manufactured goods are made in China. Most commodities in the international market are Chinese- made. If you can find low-cost suppliers and sell your stuff abroad for a higher price, including possibly your home country, then you’ve got yourself a business opportunity.

9. Proofreader/ editor

Many Chinese companies may be looking to expand their business overseas and target foreign consumers, or simply reach out to the expat communities in China.

As such, their organizations will be looking for native speakers to help double-check their materials and edit them if needed.
