摘要

本文利用双重差分方法研究COVID-19对美国和中国水果和蔬菜价格的影响。研究结果表明，新冠疫情对中美水果和蔬菜批发价格产生不同影响。此外，尽管因疫情陷入空前的混乱，但美国农产品行业仍然完好无损。然而，长期影响可能好坏参半。我们猜测，从长远来看，该行业将通过积累实际经验来保持弹性。然而，潜在的结构性变化，例如由于收入减少而改变家庭支出结构以及食品服务市场日益集中，可能会损害该行业。

Abstract

This paper examines the impact of COVID-19 on fruits and vegetable prices in the United States and China in a difference-in-differences framework. Our main results show differing impacts of the pandemic on the U.S. and Chinese wholesale prices. We conclude that despite the unprecedented disruptions, the U.S. produce industry remained intact. However, the long-run effects could be mixed. We conjecture that the industry would stay resilient in the long-run by having gained practical know-how. Nevertheless, potential structural changes, such as changing household expenditure patterns due to income loss and increasing concentration in the foodservice market, could hurt the industry.
