INTHE_ 一周年之际,再次携手Dose Art ,将于2023年6月02日至2023年7月20日推出艺术家联展「Dasein 存在」用最放松的姿态感受和聆听物质的随机波动,一切存在都是自然而然,我们的相遇也是,谢谢你这一年的陪伴!


6月2日(周五)「Dasein 存在」联展开幕,策展人将于下午2点以及下午4点展开两场现场导览,同时邀请参展艺术家许帅现场创作分享,感兴趣的朋友请不要错过!




通过视觉和听觉,我们以波动的形式感知世界。视觉通过光的波动,听觉则依赖声音的波动。视觉艺术和音乐之间存在联系,因为它们都依赖于这种共同的波动性质。INTHE_x DOSE 再次合作,「Dasein 存在」展览通过艺术家Lynn Aldrich,Carl Berg,Martin Durazo,Tim Ebner,Katy Ann Gilmore,Soo Kim,Augusta Wood 和Shuai Xu 的平面及装置作品,探讨视觉艺术和声光之间共通的波动性。通过感官交叉推动艺术表达边界,在感受者的心灵深处引发共鸣,带动产出无尽的想象力和情感。


Through sight and hearing, we perceive the world in the form of fluctuations. Sight through the fluctuation of light and hearing relies on the fluctuation of sound. There is a connection between visual art and music because they both rely on this shared fluctuating nature. INTHE_x DOSE collaborates again with the exhibition "Dasein", through graphic and installation works by artists Lynn Aldrich, Carl Berg, Martin Durazo, Tim Ebner, Katy Ann Gilmore, Soo Kim, Augusta Wood, and Shuai Xu. The shared volatility between visual art and sound and light. By pushing the boundaries of artistic expression through the intersection of the senses, the works resonate in the hearts and minds of those who experience them, driving the output of endless imagination and emotion.

In the 1960s and 1970s, an important visual arts movement emerged in Southern California, known as the 'Light and Space Movement.' It focused on the integration of light and space, exploring the effects of light, spectrum, and reflection on the viewer's senses. By immersing the viewer in a spectral environment and engaging them in a sensory experience, the movement explored the possibilities of creating such experiences. Inspired by this, artists combined light and color with natural elements such as water, stone, and wood to create transcendent experiences that go beyond the visual.

The exploration of cross-perception continues to deepen beyond the traditional conceptual framework. Combining light, color, space and sound, the emergence of this art form also creates opportunities for more perceptual and emotional exploration. Both music and visuals are non-verbal art forms, and the existence of this art form means that art needs to be actively felt, but rather an active process of engagement and exploration. There is certainly a commonality between the rhythms, harmonies and dynamics of music and the lines, shapes and colors of painting. In this exhibition, we have also incorporated the idea of waves and spatial structure to further enrich this dialogue. As elements of different senses intertwine, a direct connection between the viewer and the work is established, which transcends the limits of words and concepts. As a result, the fluctuation of light and the people around them, the fluctuation of sound lingers and the situation of the self, the boundary between self and other, begins to be understood.

Being here in time and space, in a body, in the world, is both quite ordinary and strangely mysterious. Aldrich’s art begins  with making conceptualizations about this condition of being and looking out at the world. She makes forms that seem appropriate, in varied scale, with some low tech manipulation  such as painting. But she doesn’t alter materials so much as attempt to reveal, through accumulation, repetition, or placement, the metaphors inherent in their actuality. References to phenomena such as water, light, stars and planets, flora and fauna are jammed up with the pervasive, sometimes deadening influences of contemporary life. The work is designed to quietly challenge the viewer’s expectations, while raising questions about physicality and ontological moorings.


Living in Los Angeles, a sprawl of glamorous banality, is an advantage to being aware of changes occurring in our global society. L.A. hangs tenuously on the edge of a continent, a metropolis symbolic around the world for a mythological urge toward paradise. The fair weather landscape abounds in Eden-inspired gardens, yet people desire escape from real time and space through the powerful distractions of entertainment, addiction, speed, and computer technology. Excess, spectacle, and artificiality stifle any journey toward a deeper ground of being.


Her artworks attempt to be grounded in Realism or what is actually present, influenced by the empiricism of the natural sciences. But remain open to the Romanticism of a spiritual or sacred longing for revelation and authentic transcendence, what would call ‘hyper-desire’. This is the profound paradox at the core of all true religion and artistic activity.

Carl Berg is a Los Angeles-based artist, curator, and gallery director who also spends time in Europe, mainly in Italy and the Netherlands. Berg works in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, and digital prints. During a recent trip to Italy, he created a new series of collage paintings.


Berg has exhibited both locally (mainly in Los Angeles) and internationally, including exhibitions at Frank Taal in Rotterdam, Art Affairs in Amsterdam, Berlin Art Projects in Berlin, and POST in Los Angeles. He had his first solo museum exhibition at the Torrance Art Museum in California in 2016.

Martin Durazo fuses the visual dynamism of Abstract Expressionism with a contemporary perspective inspired by the creative subcultures of graffiti writing, heavy metal music, and raves. By combining swathes of fluorescent and metallic paint with wide, energetic strokes achieved by using squeegees and trowels instead of paintbrushes, Durazo’s palimpsests reference urban streets, billboards, and clubs layered with a high-low mix of corporate advertisements and DIY posters. Vivid titles for works, like Hot Pants (2012) and Live Wire (2014), emphasize his subcultural inspirations: the fleeting memories that remain after a night punctuated by throbbing bass and flashing strobe lights.


Martin Durazo received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Art from Pitzer College. Durazo is the recipient of the 2012 C.O.L.A. Individual Artists Fellowship from the City of Los Angeles and a 2011 California Community Foundation Fellowship Award, funded by the Getty Trust. His work was included in the inaugural 2011 SUR Biennial and in 2010 he was an Artist-in-Residence at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. He has exhibited at the Torrance Art Museum; PULSE Los Angeles Contemporary Art Fair; Pomona College Museum of Art; MexiCali Biennial 2013; Harris Art Gallery at the University of LaVerne; White Box in New York City; ArtForum Berlin and Art Basel Miami Beach. His work has been reviewed in Flash Art International, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, LA Weekly, Artweek, and Art Review. He has also been a producer for KPFK Radio, where he is regularly featured in discussion about art and social issues.

The geometric Finish-Fetish inspired pieces of the late 80s for which Ebner received international attention, gave way to subsequent bodies of representational painting and sculpture and later forays into painterly abstraction. The artist’s newest work combines the formal concision of his earlier interest in Minimalism with the material-rigor of craft to produce sculptural paintings in an expanded field. 


Tim Ebner attended the California College of Arts and Crafts and received a BFA and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 1982. He has taught at CalArts, Otis College of Art and Design, Occidental College, Claremont College, UCLA, Art Center College of Art & Design, and is currently a professor at California State University, Los Angeles. 


Ebner’s work has appeared in exhibitions since 1982, and has been shown in several National institutions including, the New Museum, NY, Museum of Contemporary Art, LA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, List Visual Art Center, MIT, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and Museum of Fine Art, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The artist lives in Los Angeles.

Katy Ann Gilmore is a visual artist living and working in Los Angeles. She brings a unique interdisciplinary approach to her practice, drawing on her past academic work in both art and mathematics. Strategic, controlled, and logical, her aesthetic and creativity is structured by this methodological reliance on mathematical ways of working.


Refusing the exclusionary paradigm that posits art and math at unequivocal odds, Gilmore prefers to remain open to the productive intersection of disciplines. Her interest in structures, both spatial and disciplinary, reveal a fundamental curiosity about the world at large, both natural and humanly contrived. Though based in hand drawing, her works often use mathematical formulae, graphs, or equations to get to the desired end result. It is through this application of systems that something larger about the nature of perception and experience is revealed through her compositions.


Gilmore's interest in the structure of space also extends into three-dimensional media. In addition to her completion of several high profile mural commissions for corporate clients like Facebook, Uber, and Vans, she has created sculptural installations from a myriad of unlikely materials including fabric and textile, rubber cord, and steel ball chains, among other things. Inspired by the intricate systems that allow the human brain to experience and perceive physicality through the synthesis of visual cues, Gilmore creates works that challenge our sense of place to reveal the endless potential of discovery and sight.

Artist Soo Kim often employs techniques of cutting and layering in order to introduce areas of absence or disruption in what we tend to take for granted--the interpretation of photographic images. Kim believes that the lengthy process required to create her photographs infuses them with a “slowness” that finds its counterpart in the amount of time it takes the viewer to comprehend them. Her work often incorporates narrative elements or makes reference to literature. 


Born in South Korea, Kim moved to Los Angeles in 1980. After earning a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Riverside, she combined studies in critical writing, art, and film at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia for her master of fine arts. Kim lives in Los Angeles and teaches at Otis College of Art and Design. 


Kim’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Angles Gallery, Los Angeles; Sandroni Rey Gallery, Los Angeles; Julie Saul Gallery, New York; The Pasadena Museum of California Art; and the Pomona College Museum of Art. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Getty Center, Los Angeles; The 2002 Gwangju Biennale, Korea; Weatherspoon Art Museum, North Carolina; the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach; Architecture and Design Museum, Los Angeles; Art Sonje, Korea; Islip Art Museum, New York; the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto; Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College, New York; Seoul Museum of Art, Korea; and the Honolulu Museum of Art. 


Kim’s work is in the public collections of The J. Paul Getty Museum, The Broad Foundation, The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego, North Carolina Museum of Art, and The Escalette Collection of Art, Chapman University.

Interested in the inherent elisions that emerge from within the photograph as an innately apparitional and mnemonic record, Wood explores its recomposition, engaging the subjective nature of time and memory, in all its latency and perceptual instability, as intimate extensions of the self and its way of seeing. Wood has traced the edges of her daily life in film, shooting photographs of its interiors, exteriors, vantage points, and objects at different times of day and year, accumulating partial, though intimate, views of its contours. Capturing the shifts in atmosphere and light that both animate these circadian textures and stir the indeterminacy of their shadows, Wood confronts the passing of time as a uniquely fractured and digressive experience rather than a reliably quantifiable one.


Augusta Wood completed her MFA at California Institute of the Arts and her BFA at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York. She has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles at DENK Gallery, Cherry and Martin, and Angles Gallery, and has been included in group exhibitions at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), The George Eastman Museum (Rochester, NY), The Torrance Art Museum (Torrance, CA), Zach Feuer Gallery (New York), and Anton Kern Gallery (New York), among others. Her work has been covered in publications including the Los Angeles Times, Modern Painters, Artillery Magazine, Flaunt, and The Huffington Post. Her photographic project I have only what I remember was published as a hardcover book in 2014. Wood is included in the permanent collections of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and The George Eastman Museum.

许帅1995年于中国出生,目前居住在洛杉矶。他当前作品专注于无形世界,许多灵感来自于他的梦境。他对人类与宇宙的关系非常感兴趣,尤其关注个体与自然之间在地球上的相互作用。他希望能更深入地探索自己的内在世界,同时向外拓展,与社会以及更广阔的世界进行互动。


他希望通过作品让观众摆脱愤世嫉俗和蔑视,为他们创造沉思和反思的机会。他渴望开始理解,并邀请他人理解人类与自然、宇宙以及我们在宇宙中存在的意义之间的关系,简而言之,探索自我。作为一个大地艺术家,装置艺术家,画家,他的身份不受媒介的限制,在自我和无形世界的边缘。他的装置将现有实体世界分割,形成的空洞像思绪的漩涡,在形变的过程中拉扯自我的虚实。同样的探索过程体现在他的画作之中,明快或鲜亮的色彩里,形状起伏与画布,画布被其分割,或深入,画布如同一个水平面,而创作者和他的笔触,带着不真实的色彩空间在其间游移。


Born in China, 1995, currently living in Los Angeles. His current works focus on the invisible world, and much of his inspiration comes from his dreams. He is interested in humanity's relationship to the cosmos, particularly as it plays out here on Earth, in the relationship between individuals and nature. He hopes to explore his interior world more deeply while expanding outward, to engage society and beyond. 


He hopes that his works will move viewers away from cynicism and contempt, creating the opportunity to experience moments of contemplation and reflection. His desire is to begin to understand—and to invite others to understand—the relationship between human beings and nature, the universe, and the meaning of our existence in the universe—in short to an exploration of the self.
