On January 10 around midnight, a guest at the All Seasons Hotel in northern China was startled to see a security guard enter her room.
The hotel has refused to apologise or provide the woman compensation, claiming that the incident was a misunderstanding.
The Beijing News reported on January 16 that a woman in China is suing a hotel after a security guard allegedly used a master key to enter her room at midnight when she was in bed in the dark and claimed to serve her fruit.
The woman, who goes by Ni, was a guest at the All Seasons Hotel in Hohhot, in the Inner Mongolia autonomous area of northern China, when the man entered her room on January 10 when she was alone and terrified her, she said.
The guard, filling in for housekeeping that night, entered the room and soon after left the fruit plate.
I heard a knock on the door sometime after midnight. A man responded that he was delivering fruit when I questioned who it was. Since I had already gone to bed to sleep, I claimed I didn’t need anything, Ni said.
Nevertheless, she said, “he still used his key card to open my door and enter my room. I was particularly afraid because the room was dark. The only light on was in the bathroom.
“I continued telling him I didn’t need the fruit and asking him what he wanted. He left after around 20 seconds.
Ni said that the experience had traumatised her, and she demanded an apology from the hotel as well as 20,000 yuan ($3,000) in damages.
Ni demanded a public apology and compensation, but the hotel’s owner, a guy with the last name Zhai, said the guard’s tardy arrival into the room was the result of a miscommunication.
Ni was accused by Zhai of extorting the hotel out of spite, and he advised her to go to court if she wasn’t happy with his decision.
The owner explained, “He was delivering everything all by himself, on one floor after another, so it was a little late.
Unidentified hotel manager said that the guard had chosen the incorrect time to do his duties. However, he said in an interview with the Beijing News that despite the guard’s bad decision-making, he had only entered the room after knocking on the door and getting no response.
After the housekeeping staff has signed off, the security guard is in charge of sending fruit plates, he explained.
“What he did was highly questionable. After midnight, he knocked on the door. That’s improper to do it after 10 o’clock, let alone 11 o’clock,” he continued.
