According to various local media reports, a group of foreign and local students went to relax at a restaurant in Foshan, Guangdong Province, on June 1. Unfortunately, they quarreled with other clients and a fight broke out, resulting in one of the foreign students getting injured.The incident, which unleashed a huge debate online commenced when the group of foreign students who entered the restaurant were accused of being too loud. The client who said he sat next to their table later told reporters that the students were too loud and they asked them to lower their voices. But this resulted in a quarrel between the group and other clients who were not content with their behavior. As more clients joined to condemn the behavior of the foreigners, one of the Chinese women who came with the foreigners scolded a Chinese client who called them out first, asking him to stop being nosy.This escalated into a physical altercation in which one of the foreigners accidentally hit and injured another foreigner.
It is not yet known whether the fight was reported to the police or not, but according to the news circulating on the internet, police are yet to release any report on the incident.The incident has re-ignited a huge debate online among netizens who said that foreigners who act this way in China are not welcome. They also called for the investigation of the said foreigners, citing Article 26 of the Law on Administrative Punishments for Public Security which states that people who pick quarrels and provoke trouble shall be detained for not less than 5 days but not more than 10 days, and may also be fined up to 500 yuan.When circumstances are serious, they shall be detained for not less than 10 days but not more than 15 days, and may also be fined not more than 1,000 yuan.
