How to Apply for Temporary and Regular Driver License in SZ

A foreign driver's license cannot be used directly in China.
If you need to drive legally in China, you can only change your foreign driver's license to China's driving license, namely a temporary entry driving license. The public security department shall renew the issue according to the actual residence of foreigners in China.
Unlike in other countries, an International Driving Permit or any other foreign driver’s license is not valid in China; however, a temporary driver’s license may be the perfect solution for those who want to drive a car for a short term.
Starting in September of 2019, foreigners are allowed to apply for a temporary driver’s permit without having to go through the usual steps for a full driver’s license (such as getting a physical examination/medical report).
A. A temporary driver’s license
A temporary driver’s license (The color of temporary driver license is approximately white) is not the same as a regular Chinese license and has some limitations.
First, you can only use this license to drive a rental car. And also need to attention, this license is paired with your current visa (which means that if your visa expires, so does your temporary permit. Lastly, the temporary permit can only be used for a period of one year.
So, the temporary driver’s license is available for foreigners, who are visiting China for up to 3 months. The biggest perk to the provisional driver’s license is you don’t need to take a written test.
What documents you needed for a temporary driver’s permit are
2. Valid foreign driving license with a notarized Chinese translation, and accommodation registration form is required in some cities.
There are many services that can help you to attain a notarized translation.
Once you have all your documents ready, you need to take a trip to your city’s local vehicle administration office. There, you will need to take photographs for your new permit and fill out the required forms.
B. A regular driver’s license
A regular driver’s license is for foreigners visiting China for over three months or plan on staying in China long term as it is good for 6 years. Unfortunately, it takes a few trips (if you’re lucky) to get a full-license as well as passing a 100-question written test.
The color of regular driver license is approximately green.
In Shenzhen’s DMV for getting driving license, you can choose one of six languages such as: English, France, Japan, Germany, Korea and Russia.
Who can apply to have a regular Chinese driver license:
Holders of overseas driving license in the issuing country or region within one year of the accumulated residence of more than 90 days, can apply for the corresponding type of driving license.
What documents you needed
2. Valid visa or residence permit (issuing place: Guangdong)
3. Temporary residence registration
4. Overseas driving license (It should be translated and notarized)
5. Photos with white background and receipt of photograph
6. Take a driver's physical examination at DMV (department of motor vehicles)
What is the procedure
3. Take the exam of basic theory within three years after the vehicle management office accept your application.
4. Retrieve the license (you can pick it up by yourself or ask the staff to mail it to you).
