A man in Weng'an County, southwestern China's Guizhou Province, has been put under a 5-day administrative detention following a failed suicide attempt, the local police announced yesterday. The incident caused a traffic congestion which lasted for over an hour, the police said.It is reported that the man was spotted standing at the top of a building, intending to commit suicide by jumping off the building. The police noted that he was emotionally unstable and tried to calm him down.Local police and firefighters rushed to the scene as soon as they received the report."Just relax and come over here, we will give you any help that you need." The police told the man.The man told the police that he was going through a failed romantic relationship, and got the idea of commiting suicide after drinking alcohol.They quickly contacted his mother through a video call and invited him to talk with her. Through persuasion from the police and his mother, the man calmed down and was successfully taken to a safe place.After calming down, the man expressed gratitude towards the police, firefighters and his family for stopping him from commiting suicide. He promised to learn how to deal with emotional issues rationally in the future.

Thus, he was put under a 5-day administrative detention in accordance with the law.The local police cautioned the public to not take extreme measures in any case. As in this case, jumping off a building is not only dangerous to the involved individual, but also to the public.
The police can impose fines, detention, and other penalties on violators depending on the severity of the situation. Those suspected of criminal offenses will also be held criminally responsible.
