Thailand will permanently waive visa requirements for Chinese citizens starting March 1, announced Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on Tuesday.China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson also announced Today during a press briefing that the country would implement a reciprocal measure for Thailand passport holders.Srettha had announced earlier during a press conference after a cabinet meeting at the government house that Thailand waived visa requirement for visitors from China for three months, the trial measure will end in February 29. He added that the Thai governement negotiated with relevant Chinese authorities to adopt a mutual permanent visa-free policy for citizens from both countries starting March 1st, when the current trial ends.The measure is set to strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural connections between the two countries.It is also a response to the growing tourism demand between the two countries and is expected to significantly boost tourism industry, simplify travels for business visitors and may increase investment opportunities.
Thailand is a popular destination for Chinese tourists, with millions of tourists from China visiting the country every year. Through this new visa exemption measure, the Thai government has stated that it will further strengthen its tourism industry connections and attract more Chinese tourists.Similarly, visa-free entry for Thai citizens into China aims to reciprocate the warm welcome and hospitality received by Chinese tourists in Thailand. The Chinese authorities expect an increase in the number of Thai tourists visiting China, thereby promoting the exchange of cultural, commercial, and tourism perspectives.
