Title: PROGRAMME ASSISTANT FOR SOCIAL AND HUMAN SCIENCES

Overview of the functions of the post 


Description of Responsibilities:


Under the authority of the Director, UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist (PS) for Social and Human Sciences (SHS), the incumbent shall assist in programme implementation in the field of Social and Human Sciences within the Beijing Cluster Office. This specific tasks and responsibilities include: 


  1. Provide technical, organizational, logistical and administrative support for SHS projects in countries of the Cluster, including but not limited to the UNESCO International Youth Forum on Creativity and Heritage along the Silk Roads, Nanjing Peace Forum, Gender equality, sport for peace and development initiatives, implementation of Kazan Action Plan, etc.

  2. Assist in drafting letters, reports and other documents related to   the implementation of SHS programme activities.  Draft press releases and other promotional materials to enhance the visibility of SHS work via website, social media and other channels.

  3. Provide translation and interpretation services, check and proof read Sector documents in both English and other languages to ensure accuracy. 

  4. Liaise with UNESCO National Commissions, UN agencies, donors, and other partners in Cluster countries to ensure smooth monitoring, implementation and collaboration on technical and logistical issues of SHS activities. Coordinate with participants to ensure their preparation and attendance at the event, including travel arrangements and understanding of the activity outputs and outcome.

  5. Liaise with various SHS networks including of youth, ethics teachers, gender experts to provide them with relevant information.

  6. Assist in administrative tasks including preparation of contracts, process payments, budget situation and travel.

  7. Undertake any other assignments requested by the Director or the direct supervisor.


Required qualifications


EDUCATION 

  • Advanced university (Master’s degree or equivalent) in sociology, gender, peace, international relations, political science, social sciences or related field is required. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in social and human sciences is required.  

  • Experience in the area of project management, coordination and implementation. 

  • Experience in functioning of international organizations, in particular the UN system and its organs is desirable.

  • Operates in compliance with UNESCO’s rules and regulations. 


LANGUAGES

  • Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written).

  • Mastering one language of Cluster countries (Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, and Chinese) would be an asset. 




Desirable qualifications 


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of two years working experience in the area of international organizations or diplomatic bodies; 


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of UNESCO administrative and informatics tools (FABS, SISTER, DUO, etc.). 


LANGUAGES

  • Good knowledge of French.



Benefits and entitlements 


Benefits include: 2.5 days of leave per month, up to 15% of the basic salary for medical insurance and pension plan.

A WRITTEN EXAMINATION MAY BE USED IN THE EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES.
