Mars simulation base

China will establish the country’s first Mars simulation base, in northwest China’s Qinghai Province, the local government said Tuesday.

The base will be in the red cliff region in Da Qaidam (also known as Dachaidan) district in the Mongolian-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Haixi.

China's first lawsuit against smoking in public areas

Li Jing (an alias), a college-bound student, filed a lawsuit against Harbin Railway Bureau for allowing passengers to smoke on the K1301 train it operates. The Beijing Railway Transport Court has accepted the case and the trial will begin on August 24.

准大学生李晶（化名）将哈尔滨市铁路局告上法庭，原因是由其运营的K1301次列车允许乘客吸烟。目前，北京铁路运输法院已受理此案，该案将于8月24日开庭。

Li took the K1301 train from Beijing to Tianjin on June 9, 2017. She found her coach full of smoke as some passengers and even staff members were smoking in the smoking areas on the train.

6月9日，李晶乘坐K1301次列车从北京前往天津。她发现所在的车厢里烟雾缭绕，原来是有乘客在列车上吸烟，甚至工作人员也在其中。

Li said it was written clearly in the safety notices of the train she took that "smoking is banned in every area of the train"; however, there were smoking areas with smoking sets on the train. It was contradictory and had violated the law.

It is the first time that the operator or administrator have been sued for allowing smoking in public places. The case will help promote smoking bans on ordinary trains if Li wins the lawsuit.
