A bell rang and a siren went off on Monday at the September 18th Historical Museum in Shenyang, Liaoning province, to commemorate the 86th anniversary of the September 18 Incident, reminding the Chinese not to forget the national humiliation.

9月18日，沈阳“九·一八”历史博物馆举行撞钟鸣警仪式，纪念“九·一八”事变86周年，提醒国人勿忘国耻。

On the evening of September 18, 1931, the Japanese invasion army--Kantogun (Kwantung Army) voluntarily blew up a section of the South Manchuria Railway which was near Liutiao Lake on the suburb of Shenyang, but they accused Chinese troops of destroying the railway.

1931年9月18日夜，日本驻中国的侵略军——关东军，自行炸毁沈阳郊区柳条湖附近南满铁路的一段路轨，反诬中国军队破坏铁路。

On this pretext, they attacked Beidaying and Shenyang City where the Chinese troops were stationed. Soon afterwards, they occupied more than 20 cities and vast surrounding areas within only several days. That was the “September 18 Incident” that shocked China and the whole world at that time.

Chinese authorities on Thursday released a selected list of universities and colleges, which will participate in the country’s construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.

The plan, also known as the “Double-First Class” initiative, aims to ultimately build a number of world class universities and disciplines by the end of 2050, in an effort to make China an international higher education power.

Venezuela published the price of its oil and fuel in Chinese currency on Friday in what it called an effort to free the country from the “tyranny of the dollar,” echoing a plan recently announced by President Nicolas Maduro.

潜水员水下失踪事件

two divers missing underwater

The two divers, identified as Denovo Xu and Sun Hao, failed to surface from a dive on Wednesday morning, September 6, in the Panjiakou Reservoir, about a three-hour drive northeast of Beijing.

Their bodies were found 63 meters underwater on Monday, 12 days after going missing.

Panjiakou Reservoir covers the site of a village that was adjacent to the Great Wall 500 years ago. The team’s job was to survey and map the area, diving about 50 meters below the surface to take photographs and videos of the submerged Great Wall.
