While many of us will spend the final days of 2021 reflecting on its whirlwind events, global color authority Pantone has already been busy looking ahead -- to decide on the shade that will best encapsulate 2022.

On Wednesday it unveiled Very Peri, a periwinkle hue that the company says combines the steady tranquility of blue with an energetic infusion of red. It's the first time the company has manufactured a color instead of delving into their pre-existing archive, a decision that was a vital element of this year's selection process.

"It was really important for us to come up with a new color, because we have a very new vision of the world now," said Pantone Color Institute's Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman in a video call.

Three taikonauts of the Shenzhou-13 spaceflight mission delivered the first session of the Tiangong class series, China's first extraterrestrial lecture series, to popularize space science. The lectures, mainly aimed at young students from all over the world, began with a live broadcast from the orbiting China Space Station on Thursday afternoon.

A total of 1,420 students from primary classrooms at the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing, as well as other classrooms in Nanning, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Wenchuan county, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, took part in video communication with the Shenzhou-13 crew, according to a statement the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) provided to the Global Times.

据中国载人航天工程办公室向《环球时报》提供的消息，此次太空授课活动在中国科技馆设地面主课堂，在广西南宁、四川汶川、香港、澳门分设4个地面分课堂，共1420名中小学生代表参加现场活动，与神舟十三号乘组航天员在视频中进行互动交流。

Olaf Scholz elected new German chancellor

Olaf Scholz from Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD) was elected as the new Federal Chancellor on Wednesday.

当地时间12月8日，德国社会民主党（社民党）总理候选人奥拉夫·朔尔茨正式当选德国总理。

According to the German Bundestag, or the lower house of Parliament, Scholz got 395 of the 707 votes, well above the 369-vote majority required in the 736-seat Bundestag.

据德国联邦议院（议会下院），在总计707票中，朔尔茨获得395张赞成票，高于当选所需票数。联邦议院有736名议员，朔尔茨需要至少369票（绝对多数）的支持。

The newly-elected chancellor then went to the official residence of the Federal President at Bellevue Palace where he was appointed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Eileen Gu was securely in first place heading into the third and final run of the women's freeski big air World Cup in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on Saturday.

Gu also claimed her first freeski big air World Cup title to complete major international wins in all three freeski events, following her freeski slopestyle and halfpipe World Cup victories in Calgary, Canada in 2020, and slopestyle and halfpipe World Champions in Aspen, the US in March.
