动手帝自制“沙漠之鹰”:没错,每一个零部件,都是我自己组装的 | 'The Hawk in the Desert’
"Hawk," 50, is a car mechanic in Chengdu, capital of China's southwest Sichuan Province. Unlike most of his peers, he focuses on off-road rally cars.
今年五十岁的“老鹰”生活在成都,是一名汽修师。但与其他同行不同,他主要维修用于参加拉力赛事的越野车。
Moreover, he handcrafted one of the cars using his own money and experience.
更与众不同的是,他还自掏腰包,利用多年积累的专业技术,为自己造了一台越野赛车。
He named this car "Hawk in the Desert." Many of the professionals are astonished by the tools he used to make the car: a bench drill, a plasma cutter, a carbon-dioxide arc welding machine, and a box of manual tools. "Also, I have my hands. That's all I've got."
他管这辆车叫“沙漠之鹰”。而他制造这部车所用的工具,更是令许多专业人士大跌眼镜:一部台钻,一部等离子切割机,一部二氧化碳保护焊,还有一包手工工具。“还有我的双手。这些就是全部了。”
Compared to the sky-high R&D costs for the race car manufacturers, the budget for the "Hawk in the Desert" was only about 200,000 yuan.
相比于专业赛车公司动辄千万欧元的研发成本,“沙漠之鹰”的预算只有20万人民币。
Hawk's rally dream started three years ago, when he attended a car race with a refitted 25-year-old off-road vehicle. "The car's performance was actually far from enough for the rally. It overturned soon after the set-off."
老鹰的拉力赛梦想始于三年前。当时,他简单改装了一辆二十五年车龄的越野车去参加了一次拉力赛。“但是这部车的性能达不到我的要求,没多久就翻车了。”
So he decided to make a car by himself and get back in the race "fully armed."
从那时起,他就决定自己造一辆车,再体验一次真正的拉力赛。
Because he couldn't afford chromium-molybdenum steel for the frame, he turned to building steel instead. To make it curve as he wanted, he used bending tools before adjusting the angles manually.
买不起特种钢材铬钼钢做车架,他就用建筑钢材代替。为了得到想要的弧度,他就先用设备将钢材弯曲之后手动微调。
In order to derust the frame, he towed the car to a construction site instead of a car factory. With the help of a friend, he used the device that's originally designed for derusting the tower crane foundation, on his car.
给车架除锈的时候,他开去的也不是专门的汽车工厂,而是建筑工地。朋友用来给塔基除锈的设备,刚好可以为他所用。
"Whenever I felt like giving up, that dream drove me to pick up the tools time and time again."
“每当我想放弃的时候,是这个梦想支持着我第二天继续拿起工具走下去。”
Every single cog of the "Hawk in the Desert" was fitted by himself. All his friends know that: "The car is like the apple of his eye."
从发动机开始,“沙漠之鹰”的每一个螺丝钉都是他亲手装上去的。朋友评价说:“那辆车可是他的心肝宝贝。”
But the making of the car didn't go smoothly. The first road test revealed problems. The unbalance of the hydraulic cylinders caused it hard to maneuver. Later when the steering lever broke, Hawk had to fix it night and day to catch up with the schedule.
但造车的过程并非一帆风顺。在第一次上路测试的时候,赛车就出现了问题。因为两边液压缸不平衡,导致车辆难以操作。之后,更是出现了转向杆断裂的问题,让老鹰不得不连夜加固。
Having solved the problems, Hawk brought his car to the Ejin Banner Rally held in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
将问题解决后,老鹰带着他的爱车参加了在内蒙古举办的额济纳旗拉力赛。
The first five kilometers were quite smooth. Yet it didn't last long before the steering lever broke again. Hawk had to reinforce it, went back to the race and drove on.
比赛前五公里,赛车的表现都令人满意。但不久,因为路上的坑洼,转向杆又断了。再次加固之后,老鹰回到赛道上,继续参加接下来的比赛…
