云南墨江紫米曾是“贡米”，如今它不是主流产品，又不为市场所熟知，销路一直打不开，很多村民已放弃种植，哈尼姑娘李元美为了留住“小时候的味道”，坚持种植紫米，但却遭遇紫米卖不出去的困境。紫米是科学家们心中珍贵的高山珍稀生物遗传种质资源，也是哈尼族传统文化中非常重要的元素，重要节庆和祭祀必须用到紫米。为了保护珍稀的种质资源和水稻品种的“生物多样性”，以及哈尼族传统文化，李元美的坚持获得了外界的认可，各方力量都在帮助她，将珍贵的紫米继续种下去。

The purple rice in Mojiang, Yunnan, is known as tribute rice, once offered to emperors in ancient times. Not so widely known today, the purple rice's cultivation has been abandoned by many farmers.

Li Yuanmei, a woman of Hani ethnic group, wants to continue growing purple rice to preserve the taste of her childhood. Although she faces difficulties in selling her crops, purple rice has attracted the interest of scientists, as it is a rare alpine species. It’s also a vital feature in the traditional culture of the Hani people, used in important festivals and rituals. Li Yuanmei’s efforts to preserve this cultural and scientific resource have touched others. Many people are now helping her with planting this precious purple rice.
