CGTN CGTN 2023-06-08

The U.S. experienced over 600 mass shootings in 2022, including 46 on school grounds. Among them, the Robb Elementary School shooting was the deadliest in the United States since 1999 when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire and killed 19 children and two adults at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022.

The case not only exposed the problems of America's gun violence and police system, but also called into question the professionality of its law enforcement officers. Public anger has been rising since the incident, with accusations of serious police negligence and a lack of adequate training.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said it was a "systemic failure."

CGTN Global Stringer spoke with Brian Higgins, a former SWAT team member who also served as chief of the Bergen County Police and director of Public Safety for Bergen County, New Jersey, and Gary Moskowitz, a former New York police officer and tactics coach, to share their analysis and perspective on the school shooting. In the video, both of them said the incident was not only a serious decision mistake but also the result of a lack of training.
