A few years ago, there was a German family of four in China. One night all four members died at home, at the hands of four homeless young adults. These homeless young adults were only planning to steal from an empty house, but they went next door by mistake. They were found by the father. Under huge pressure, these young adult chose to kill the whole family in a hurry. The killers were arrested quickly after and sentenced to death.
In a lot of countries, citizens are allowed to own guns to protect themselves. However, in China, guns are definitely not allowed under any circumstances. Guns have caused many tragedies and issues, as we have seen all too much in recent news.
Whilst guns are not allowed, you may be wondering what kind of weapons are allowed in China, for self-protection.
Some sharp metal weapons are allowed, except daggers, scrapers, spring knives and other similar blades.

In some regions of China, certain weapons are not allowed. For examples, knifes are restricted in Xinjiang. In Hebei and Nanjing, you cannot own a sling.
Some netizens have offered interesting choices like keys, sand, belts, coffee mugs or heels - basically everday items that can harm your enemy.

Here are some items we found on taobao - most of them will not be categorized as weapons though. Since they are being sold on taobao, it’s safe to assume that these are legal to buy.
